Want to wallow in the nostalgia of the 1970s trucking to the Middle East? I’m just about to publish “A far cry from Preston”, available for pre-Order only at www.eastfieldmedia.com. A great recollection of the job from ME veteran Ivor Whittall. A superb read! Should be printed by end of the June!
Been a beautiful weekend, no need for a coat!!
Today I’ve heard one of the all time greats of railway photography Les Nixon has passed away.
A truly lovely man who was always so, so helpful. He took this pic, one of my all time favourite railway pictures.
I will miss him.
devastated to hear Rick Buckler has died aged 69. I met him when he was playing for The Gift at Peterborough met lounge.
Later, when Bruce Foxton joined Rick and Russell Hastings, you had 2/3rds of The Jam and a singer as good as Weller; those gigs as From the Jam were awesome
A few weeks ago, I e-mailed @dbcargo.com to encourage it to rename a locomotive "Driver Jack Mills" after the first (90036) was withdrawn a couple of years back.
I'm pleased to say it has done just that... I give you 66126 "Driver Jack Mills"...
Gutted to hear Huddersfield Town legend Denis Law has passed away, aged 84.
A true star for the club. RIP 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️
Frosty walk with morning with the Labrador!
This really made me laugh!
55yrs ago today, January 4 1970, the direct trains from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield Victoria, via Woodhead, were ended by BR. The line survived for 11 and half more years as a freight line, but now is no more... This pic, found on the net, shows a Class 76 near Torside heading to Manchester
Lovely winter’s walk today by the river with the Labrador
Apparently they went to Mauritius…
Two NBL(?) locos built for export did a publicity/test run into Glasgow Central in the early ‘50s. The stock is Stanier LMS. Does anyone have any more information about the locos and this trial run? Where did they end up? What an amazing picture!
I’ll take that from Spotify!
42 years ago today, the line from Spalding to March was closed, some say controversially.
This picture shows 20003/017 heading north at Postland, where four decades on, the signalbox still stands as does the station. Not my pic (sadly!) not sure who was the photographer
Barton looking all thoughtful today…
The return to main line use for 37402, now reunited with a set of “Oor Wullie” nameplates, is edging ever closer at Barrow Hill. It looks the mutt’s nuts!
Anyone want an American fire engine? Would make a great, er, vehicle to take people to weddings or proms in? Possibly?! It would certainly get heads turning. I wonder if the sirens still work?! £12,500 and it's in Cambridgeshire!
Brilliant…..
The new issue of Trucking is out now! I spent a day with Allelys Heavy Haulage moving 50021 “Rodney” from Tunbridge Wells to North Weald using an MAN TGX 41.640. You can read about the procedures, and challenges, the team faced.
Lovely morning walk with a heavy frost, quite cold but sunny. Very invigorating!
He sounds likes he’s gone a bit Faragey there….
I love that snoot….
Had a day out to crick, Hemel Hempstead and Alconbury in this Mercedes 2545 today. Never at full weight, so didn’t hang about!
The fantastic Darling Buds are playing York on February 1 at the Fulford Arms
Suddenly I feel Network Rail might not be the worst offender for vegetation on its tracks….

Great Therapy? gig last night in Norwich!
Best not forget No. 1 pet, Cookie the cockapoo. Scruffy, sometimes a bit niffy, but lovely. 🐾🐾
First post on Bluesky; might as well make it one of my Labrador chewing on his current favourite toy; which he probably thinks is a real burger!
