..Our rivers will keep being poisoned, attacks on Māori will escalate & the 3000 annual deaths from air pollution will only increase. The now-shaky Denniston coal proposal will become a near certainty, & we can say goodbye to quality public transport we all need to get to where we live, work & play.

.Our role at 350 is not to beat around the bush in empty hopes of gaining the ear of those political parties captured by corporate interests whose buisness model is built on polluting our air, waterways and climate. If this government wins a second term, our emissions will skyrocket...

Environmental and climate considerations will lose focus and priority - with compromises made before advice ever reaches ministers.

It's worth noting that some of the powers MfE and its agents currently hold will be merged into a new mega-entity. It's clear that the new entity will have to trade off environmental responsibilities against a wide variety of other aspects they have to consider.

This is the complete opposite of what energy transition off fossil fuels looks like, and our communities will fight this all the way.
New Plymouth is the sunniest place in the country. The government should be investing in decentralised affordable solar power generation, building energy efficiency, public transport and local economies instead.”

Today's decision was timed in order for Ministers to attend the annual fossil fuel lobbyist brekky!

The Government is considering the first offshore oil exploration permit since the ban was overturned. An Australian-registered company has applied to explore off the Taranaki coast — a move that would mark a major shift in our energy policy and could lock in decades more fossil fuel dependence.
