Im going to die of log (Working on a fully customizable dialogue system and I'm almost done)
03.06.2025 23:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Ai (behavior tree ai) is done and I am now working on a devlog to show what i've made so far.
I'll be having a lot of fun with this devlog because I'll ne doing some urban exploration! Spooky vibes to immerse me in horror game development.
Developing an intricuit ai takes a lot of time but its so cool to see it react to things in different ways. (I'm making a horror game)

If your game needs a:
-game writer,
-narrative designer,
-recovering theater goth,
-or a lore-addled feral altruist whose love languages are flowcharts and memes
I'm available. ๐

It's really about filtering the good opinions from the bad and working towards becoming who you want to be in the long run.
25.02.2025 03:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Fr though, don't even pay them any mind. If everyone just ignores them then those games will be pushed to the back of steam's algorithm.
Not being seen sucks but i hold no remorse for those who don't want to put in the effort for a craft that requires so much attention and work.
Kill them
25.02.2025 03:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's even harder to be good multiple things because in most cases people expect you to define yourself as a single title.

When starting a project in UE5 I suggest turning off Motion Blur and Auto Exposure in the project settings.
They're weird to work with overall due to how they're designed to not make the project look consistent throughout. (Mostly talking about auto exposure here)
When looking for critiques it's best to say outright what you're looking for feedback on. If I posted a 3D model and said
"What do you guys think of this?"
I wouldnt get much feedback compared to if i said-
"I've been working on a new method for texturing models, how does it look?"
Yeah thats sadly how it is. You can't really have a game that has everything in it which is why its a good thing that so many different games exist.
23.02.2025 03:42 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Indie developers on the other hand make whatever game they want because its fun. There's no CEO telling them that they have to use the latest graphics for a game.
Don't blame the developers, blame the CEOs.
Interesting, I'm sure that'll be made at some point!
It's not "Game Developers" that are putting all their focus on pushing the graphics, those are the CEOs and higher ups thinking they know what gamers want.
The Game Developers are just getting paid to do what they're told.
? Have you played baldurs gate 3?
23.02.2025 01:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Ah you mean writing wise. I took your post literally ๐
.
Yeah it will always be best to make an outline for any kind of story, movie, or game to plan ahead to make sure your story, gameplay, and/or pacing is concise.
Depending on what you're making an outline will look different than others.
Is this referring to outlining words in a Visual Novel? Or would this mean drawing a line from point A to Point B in a 3D adventure game?
23.02.2025 00:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Game Devs make devlogs which go in depth into what we're thinking in the development process.
22.02.2025 23:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My first real unreal project was point and click just so i could tinker around with the engine and learn more when making the game. But that could be done in any engine. Just pick one you want to learn and make a test project I'd say.
22.02.2025 07:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah use Renpy. Its super simple and i was able to learn it within a weekend with no previous coding knowledge.
But I'd also say learn Godot as well because if you have fun making this game you'll eventually want to do more with the engine and godot has a lot of versatility.
Of course! My drive is stronger than ever especially now that I've learned so much about game dev. I feel like I can make whatever I want given enough time. Im currently working on my first commercial game which I've been working on for over a year and I'm very happy with how its turning out.
