"Is this a news report or a creative writing exercise? First, it was the debunked claim that governance changes would implicate the School Board. Now, we’re being told the Treasurer and Commissioner of Revenue are 'in the balance' despite the fact that no one is actually proposing it. It’s ridiculous to frame a non-issue as a 'question' just to stir the pot. Do better @ARLnowDOTcom - Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington)

It's pretty much always a "creative writing exercise" (and/or bashing Democrats, liberals, etc.) with the MAGA author of this piece, and it's been that way for a loooong time. He's definitely *not* going to "do better"... bluevirginia.us/2026/03/tues... h/t @hopeforvirginia.bsky.social

Trump Administration Incompetence Strands Americans Abroad

March 3, 2026 (Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA), who previously served in the State Department as a U.S. Ambassador, today issued the following statement after Americans were instructed by the State Department to evacuate from a list of countries comprising nearly the entire Middle East:

“Today I have heard from constituents who are in Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, the U.A.E., and Qatar or have family there and are frantically trying to get to safety. The State Department is instructing the approximately one million Americans in the Middle East to evacuate, but flights across the region are cancelled, airspaces are closed, and airports and consulates are shuttered or under attack. Americans stranded abroad are being told their embassies cannot help them.

“This Administration’s clumsiness and incompetence is putting American lives at risk. The President chose when to start a war with Iran, and has been deploying military assets there for over a month. Four days into this war of choice, the Administration is scrambling to help people caught in a situation they’ve long known was coming. The Administration had ample time to encourage people to leave the region, to reduce the presence of non-essential personnel at our consulates and diplomatic posts, and secure our embassies.

“Today it is clear that this Administration failed to adequately protect Americans abroad. The White House says they are ‘working on plans’ that the President himself admits they did not make in advance. We are told this as the Secretary of State claims on Capitol Hill that the war was necessary to protect American personnel overseas, something he and the President manifestly failed to do.

“The Trump Administration’s failure to plan ahead – itself reminiscent of when this Administration stranded fired USAID workers and contractors overseas after abruptly firing them – is also being made worse by the mass purges at the State Depa…

VA Senate Passes Dan Helmer Bill To End Robert E. Lee License Plates

The ‘Sons of Confederate Veterans’ To No Longer Receive DMV Funds from Taxpayers

RICHMOND - Today, Delegate Dan Helmer’s bill to end the renewal of ‘Robert E. Lee’ commemorative license plates in Virginia passed the State Senate and now heads to the governor’s desk. A portion of the sale of these plates has gone to support the ‘Sons of the Confederacy’, a neo-Confederate organization that promotes hate speech, white supremacy, and the debunked ‘Lost Cause’ ideology. Delegate Helmer released the following statement:

“The Confederacy was a four year period in which traitors hellbent on preserving slavery tried - and then failed - to divide the Union. The Confederacy and its leaders do not deserve our commemoration, and its adherents certainly do not deserve taxpayer dollars.”

Kaine, Schumer, and Schiff: Senate to Vote on Iran War Powers Resolution Tomorrow

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) announced that the Senate will vote on their bipartisan War Powers Resolution for Iran tomorrow. The bipartisan resolution, which was introduced on January 29, would stop President Donald Trump’s illegal, unnecessary war with Iran and ensure any U.S. participation in hostilities against Iran is explicitly authorized by Congress. It does not prevent the U.S. from defending itself or Israel from an Iranian attack.

“Americans want President Trump to lower prices—not drag us into unnecessary forever wars. Yet he has unilaterally launched strikes at Iran without congressional authorization, failed to articulate a clear strategy, and callously said he doesn’t ‘have the yips about boots on the ground,’” said Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees. “The Senate will vote on our bipartisan War Powers Resolution tomorrow, and every senator will have to go on the record to declare whether it is in our best interest to send our sons and daughters into conflict against Iran. I pray that my colleagues will vote to end this dangerous and unnecessary war that has already resulted in the loss of six servicemembers and injured others. We owe it to those in uniform, their families, and all Americans to not make the same mistakes that we made in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
