When I think "dark ambient" I tend to (admittedly incorrectly) fixate a bit too much on the expectation that "dark" is the end-all, be-all trait of the music I'm about to hear.
That expectation does a disservice to It's The People We Choose— while there are moments of darkness, Caer Sgàil has achieved something with a much broader emotional range. This EP takes you through peaks and valleys, exploring feelings of somber tension, grandiose hope, and cinematic catharsis. A surprisingly immersive and complete-feeling release despite its lean runtime.
An extremely satisfying debut that leaves me very eager for more.
