poem titled “Boston” there is love in this room but i don’t think it’s meant for me. just yellow wallpaper and a dark-haired boy curling around my neck; he calls me by another name, i don’t know his, and we pretend this is fine. the lightbulb is on its last leg, flickering as it illuminates the shipwreck of skin that is my body and the distance between our two mouths. the boy is all tongue and teeth and too sharp but he thinks i am beautiful, so i stay. i can’t spend another night alone. the kitchen ones are tucked away but they are begging for something to butcher. we ignore them and dance, away from the windows, away from the edges. the boy calls me darling, and i let him. the floorboards creak under our weight but this is Boston, and nothing new.
