Etymology of the day: in the expression ‘just deserts’, ‘deserts’ is an old past participle of the French ‘deservir’, meaning ‘deserve’. To get your just deserts is to get what you deserve.

The yarn color palette is reminiscent of a 1970s era kitchen: avocado green, harvest gold, and rose, with accents of orange, purple, and a dark green.

Techniques and tools: plain weave, 2x2 and 4x4 Leno twists, Brooke’s Bouquet lace, clasped weft, added mohair and Wensleydale locks and silk noil; 24” $5 garage sale loom with one heddle, swords and pickup sticks (to deepen the single shed and to add a second).

My 1st time #weaving: a hands-on rigid heddle demo led by my friend Janet Finch on a pre-warped loom. I tried every pattern I could find ’til I ran out of warp & this sampler shawl is the result.

Lesson: beginners don’t have to stick to beginner patterns!
