Or full of residual anti-German chauvinism from WW1 (Limburger cheese, liver and onions, etc.)

i hate this stupid fucking system more than anything in the world. a system that benefits nobody, actively harms everybody, could be changed at literally any point in time, YET WE STILL KEEP DOING THIS MADNESS ANYWAY. YEAR AFTER YEAR WE DO THIS STUPID SONG AND DANCE FOR NO GOD DAMN REASON

It’s also over 30 years and not limited to capital spending, unless I’m misunderstanding.

a graph of seattle link light rail ridership, shown as a rolling 12M average

US transit data is out today, and Seattle's Link remains one of the fastest-growing rail systems in the nation, with ridership up 9% in the wake of the extension to Federal Way

Ridership should increase even further at the end of this month when the 1 & 2 lines are connected🧵

When Daylight Saving Time fans say "But 4:30 sunrise"
What they think will happen - Person annoyed blasted with sun
What will actually happen - Person sleeping peacefully

It's healthier to wake after sunrise with Standard Time, than to wake in the dark with Daylight Saving Time.

Lawmaker proposes ending daylight saving time in Pennsylvania State Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) is proposing House Bill 119 to end daylight saving time in Pennsylvania.

Hard to swallow pills - There is no such thing as wasted daylight

Daylight is not a scarce resource. There is no need to "save" it.

Newspaper clipping from “The Herald–News” of Trenton, New Jersey, from March 7, 1974. Headline: “Push Time Back, Educators Plead”. Permanent DST delayed sunrise in Trenton on January 6 from 7:21am EST to 8:21am EDT, on March 7 from 6:58am EST to 7:58am EDT.

“Increasing accidents, at least one death, along with a reported r🍇pe” attributed to permanent Daylight Saving Time—on this day in 1974.

You aren’t making points, you are just saying “this would be a huge disruption.” The science is absolutely clear on the benefits of standard time, the opposition to standard time is funded by gas station owners, and it is clear that you are being willfully ignorant about this.

You are trying to will a “disruption” into existence that isn’t there. What’s being disrupted? The time you wake up? By tiny increments from March to June?

It would be substantially less disruptive than what we do twice a year currently.

Here is a study from last month that recommended permanent standard time as a societal intervention to improve adolescent sleep quality.

I don’t think that anyone actually refers to “30 minutes after sunrise” as broad daylight, and I think it’s clear that you are being incurious and obtuse about this topic.

You are talking about a cycle of sunrise and sunset that we literally evolved within, so no, it won’t be. The disruption to sleep cycles comes from shifting the clocks twice a year in order to achieve one economic goal or another. When we tried permanent DST in the past, here were the results.

I live in Washington, you can see as well as I can that the polling on this is not conclusive at all, and you also know that you are lying that it will be “broad daylight outside” at 4 AM under standard time.

You are being willfully ignorant about this topic. The biggest push to make daylight savings time permanent and the opposition to standard time are literally funded by the c-store lobby.

Would you apply the logic in this post to literally anything else?

This is by far your worst opinion. The science is not really contestable at all that DST is bad for human health and safety.

a lot of discussion about how "cosmopolitan" urban dwellers are, but a really underdiscussed trend is the homogenization of culture across *rural* areas of the USA - replacement of once-distinct regional cultures with generic "redneck" accent and culture, regional religions with evanglicalism etc

I was just talking with a Freudian guy about this usage. He said basically that because everything is sex in the theoretical territory he works in, there is a different word needed for embodied desire in the sense of hunger.

For years on my old blog I published the names of servicemembers who died in Iraq & Afghanistan. No other outlets were.

These are the first 4 Americans to die in the Iran War.

Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, 42
