as the wage gap widens, what is the solution to keeping self-pub authors competitive?

rely on scrolling solely through cover images and titles, an author is competing with plenty of other more exciting and visually stimulating imagery to grab a reader. ultimately, AI art disadvantages artists, but advantages authors.

i don’t disagree with your position re: AI and art theft. i think there are some people that read stock photo cover books, but a large (and growing imo) group that don’t read those books, and won’t pick them up. especially when interfaces like kindle unltd

thoughts: self-pub authors are already operating at a disadvantage, and art commissioning isn’t cheap (shouldn’t be tbh). when so many readers “judge books by the cover”, i can understand the desire to use those covers. i’d love to discuss if you would ☺️
