A little comparison between Dach, Nazar, and Romanov according to Net Rating on @hockeystatcards.com
Nazar is doing pretty well, especially since he's the youngest player of the bunch
Dach is starting to gain steam (hopefully he stays healthy)
Romanov is having flashbacks to 2022

It's crazy that McDavid and Celebrini are tied for first in scoring
Most generational talents win the Hart by 19 and Celebrini is certainly in the conversation right now

Fun little set of stats:
- Suzuki is tied for 1st in assists
- Caufield is tied for 1st in goals
- Dobes is 1st in save percentage

A few interesting depth foward UFAs for MTL to look at:
Anthony Mantha
Tanner Jeannot
Michael Eyssimont
Nick Bjugstad
Brandon Tanev
Justin Brazeau
Justin Danforth
Taylor Raddysh
Connor Brown

A lot of people are going to watch 28 Years Later expecting a post apocalyptic horror movie and they're going to get a coming of age fantasy movie

I could see MTL trading up with Pittsburgh to secure one of Mrtka, Bear, or Lakovick
I'm guessing 2 of the 3 will be gone by pick 16
Also, Dubas loves trading down for assets

"Kent Hughes is doing his job"

Same!
Hopefully a low pressure depth role helps him to find his game piece by piece

He went from a transition playmaking center with pretty high defensive involvement to an unremarkable and unrecognizable player.
I'm not sure what a 2nd knee injury is gonna do
Hughes made the right bet that went wrong at every turn

I'd go 11-7
Caufield Suzuki Slafkovsky
Evans/Dvorak
Gallagher Anderson
Newhook Demidov
Heinemen Armia
Guhle Carrier
Struble Huston
Matheson Xhekaj/Savard

Maybe there's a real opportunity for an 11-7 lineup

Agreed, he's a fun player and personality, but he's been close to unplayable.
Unfortunately their potential replacements are uninspiring

I completely respect that view, especially since neither Dach nor Newhook panned out to be 2Cs
If that's the case, then I hope it's one of the guys from the Good or Ideal part of the list

Right now we're seeing some organizational turmoil in NYI, VAN, and SEA, so maybe something will shake loose there.
FLA may decide to keep Bennett and if that happens, Lundell is a little more available
BUF, ANA, and UTA all want to be in the playoffs next year, maybe that's an opportunity

I agree that very few of these players scream "available C for a decent price".
Like most trades it's gonna come down to finding an opportunity, that isn't fully apparent at the moment
The 1st Monahan trade was the product of a very specific moment in free agency where CGY needed cap space

the NHL average coaching tenure was down to 2.51 years across 32 teams *before* Cronin, Laviolette, and now Bylsma were fired. Now it's down to 2.38, which is even further below the other three major professional men's leagues.

Sam deserves this success!
He played with a very obvious injury (I believe to his glove arm) behind one of the worst teams in history back in 21-22 because they had nobody else

And this isn't the case of a tandem goalie having an excellent 40 games. Sam played the 3rd most games, he's a full blown 2010s era starter!

I wonder why they enter the zone on the left so much. I love Laine, but he tends to struggle with making the pacey passing plays required to establish possession in the O-zone

I agree he's not been good tonight, but nobody on Philly has looked good.
I'm just talking about points, there's no analytics model involved
He's not a perfect player but I still think his work in o-zone could be something special

Counterpoint, here's the players with most 5v5 points since the four nations break.
I think he'd be near point per game with top six ice time and a function powerplay

Canadiensโ Josh Anderson was saved by cut-resistant pants. Why do players still resist safety?
Anderson's use of cut-resistant pants likely prevented a severe injury, but comfort still appears to be a bigger priority among players.
Josh Andersonโs clutch third period last night nearly didnโt happen. His season could have ended. But it didnโt, because he was wearing cut resistant pants for the first time. They saved him. And yet, players continue to value comfort over safety. This must change. www.nytimes.com/athletic/621...
