Will AI replace software engineers? It depends on who you ask Should software professionals be worried about their career prospects with the rise of AI agents? Industry observers' reactions to the potential impact of OpenAI's latest innovation range from guarded...

Software is a great career with a future, right? The OpenAI folks may be trying to quash that dream. But experts say "hold on...." AI doesn't grasp context or business nuance. It takes people can ensure software is doing the right thing.

Okay, I think "vibe" and "vibing," totally meaningless terms, have reached their point of annoying saturation. Let's put them back where they belong -- in music and interpersonal spats.

AI won’t design itself, won’t deploy itself, and won’t maintain itself. It won’t decide what kind of business or markets to pursue. It’s going to take more people to do these things than people being replaced by it.

As AI agents multiply, IT becomes the new HR department Fast becoming the emerging power behind enterprise microservices, AI agents will need to be acquired, onboarded, and guided - just like their human counterparts. Here's how that works.

As #AIagents multiply, IT becomes the new #HR department

"Getting to an agentic AI-powered enterprise has its challenges, however -- especially when it comes to data, trustworthiness, and talent." ~ @joemckendrick.bsky.social

Will GPT-5 Make Us Think Alike? Sam Altman recently posted on X that OpenAI is working toward a “magic unified intelligence”—a single reasoning engine rather than multiple AI models. No more choosing between GPT-4, GPT-4o, o3-mini, ...

"Diversity of thought fuels innovation," says Syracuse U Professor Shelly Palmer. GenAI may spur "a homogenization of thought where every report, analysis, corporate strategy is shaped by the same AI logic — a super-amplified groupthink." shellypalmer.com/2025/02/will...

PsiQuantum says it will have a commercial quantum computer available as soon as 2027. But whether businesses are ready to take advantage of that accelerated timeline is another story, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Generative AI As A Killer Of Creative Jobs? Hold That Thought Is AI, particularly generative AI, on a path to usurp the jobs of creatives, as well as the very essence of creativity? Could AI produce new things at the touch of a button?

One of my personal favorite pieces that I've written in Forbes. Will artificial intelligence kneecap human creativity? The jury is still out on that question, but there are encouraging signs that AI will help boost the creative mind.

Why some companies are backing away from the public cloud Many business leaders are taking a clear-eyed view of the cloud's benefits and drawbacks. Technical debt may be at the root of many repatriation decisions.

Why some companies are backing away from the public #cloud

"Close to 7 in 10 companies (69%) have moved at least some apps off the cloud and back to on-premise systems or private clouds, the survey of 1,420 IT executives from Rackspace finds." ~ @joemckendrick.bsky.social

There is a "Goldilocks Zone" for job hopping -- not too frequently, not too static, but a more rewarding middle ground. www.zdnet.com/home-and-off...

Why Everyone — From Technologists To Creatives —Needs To Guide AI Design A call for designing AI differently, as it is extremely difficult to manage when it goes awry.

My latest in Forbes:
Diversity is a strength, especially when it comes to artificial intelligence design. That’s why people from diverse professional backgrounds, from law to creative arts need to be involved in AI design and development.

The American Worker Is Becoming More Productive U.S. workers are getting more done. That’s great for the economy—though not always great for workers.

Productivity rose 2% in Q3 compared to year earlier, according to USDOL -- fifth quarter in a row with a 2%+ increase. "Cos. learned new ways of doing things, adopted new technologies, upheaval in labor market moved workers into more productive jobs." www.wsj.com/economy/jobs... @WSJ

imagine if people went to retailers and just took stuff and called it "generative shopping" and then, when the retailers said that's illegal, people said "regular shopping is too expensive so we have disrupted it" and then the retailers were like "OH! Carry on, innovators!"

People had to manually comb through millions of lines of code and fields to identify and expand the 2-digit date fields.

It was an outsourcer’s delight.

Next issue will arise as the year 10k approaches! 2/2

Time flies. It’s been 25 years since the clocks rolled over to Y2K. There was a time when systems only used 2-digit year fields (“98” “99” etc). Wasn’t as simple a fix as one might think.… 1/2)

New Years Resolutions of Old: Once Vices Now Virtues In centuries past, things considered virtuous today; reading, cycling, listening to radio or playing chess were deemed by some as unhealthy vices or a waste of time at best.

In the past; reading in bed, cycling, radio listening, & chess—considered virtues today—were deemed by some as degenerate sins of modernity. Did we have opposite resolutions?
