Hi Mal @malcpd.bsky.social - inspired into action!
I've started trying to find non-educ to coach.. Sent this to my friend tonight to send to her circle...
What do you think of my explanation of coaching?
Yes please!
Oh dear... I've just cancelled my subscription cos I thought £13 a month wasn't worth it and all these subs add up!!
At the heart of teaching and leading: "Confelicity"🙌
My fav thing about this (aside from being v impressed) is the desire to get back in front of Y11.
Teachers make these little (not so little) prioritisations for their Ss ALL the time.
It's magical.
the often very well intentioned but slip of tongue comment to a S that is upsetting.
Hard balance to achieve! 2/2
Agreed, I'm happy to share consequences with staff but with full awareness that they will sometimes be dissatisfied that it's not "firm enough."
Equally, I have tried to share some contextual info about Ss in the right way in briefing - but got to be so careful about privacy/dignity and..1/2
if its not having an affect. Also, what about the links w. other vulnerabilities like SEND and PPG (recent FFT report...) A teacher RIGHTLY does not *need* to think about these things. School leaders do. So that's where a difference in "the right way forward" naturally emerges, imo 2/2
Also - I understand the desire for "firmer action" but I think SLs have greater insight into what that looks like: the regulation, accountability, AP landscape &affordability, FAP possibilities and processes in their local borough. Even govt docs say that you have to review use of repeated FTE 1/2
, open, contribute if they're not being asked directly about THEIR experiences of bullying or poor mental health moments etc. But instead using the story as a space to explore those. So yes, NOT literature (I'm an Eng T!) but can be highly sophisticated, meaningful PSHE, I think. 2/2
Interesting- I don't think it necessarily is (or has to be) crude PSHE. Often in PSHE we ask Ss their responses to hypothetical scenarios anyway - why not take those scenarios from brilliantly written YA instead? Equally, sometimes it is much easier for a teen to be vulnerable if 1/2

Big news!
Reach Academy Feltham, a very special all-through school, is recruiting for a new co-headteacher to lead the secondary phases.
The outgoing co-head, Beck Owen, joined as a founding teacher & leaves the school in a very strong position.

I managed to snag an audio book library loan on this really early doors (now reserved till next May lol!) so would be interested to hear your thoughts!
All teachers think they are ambitious for their pupils, but can you say what that really means in practice? @ensermark.bsky.social explores…

@katstern4.bsky.social has some great stuff on behaviour. Her YouTube videos on exclusions are super informative.
One of the most difficult Qs teachers must answer is "What am I NOT going to teach my pupils?"
@Counsell_C coined the term 'curriculum hinterland' - which describes how not all content is equal. What's at the core of your curriculum?

I couldn't help but invest.
He's out there being courageous (and off a console!) on a Sat PM and I think that's just FAB!
I always say the same to this. Making Good Progress by @daisychristo.bsky.social. I come back to it at least annually and recommend to everyone.
