I have never had so much Minnesota pride in my life.

Woke: The nation-state has existed since the French Revolution

Bespoke: The nation-state has existed since about 1920

I will say, watching the extent to which Minneapolis (the city I was born in!) is universally mobilizing to fight off ICE has me more optimistic about Americans than I have ever been in my entire life.

The empire is crumbling and its people are rising. Inshallah we will create a new world in our lifetime.

Hey remember that time Israel killed 1000+ civilians in Iran and the American media posted about โ€œterror in Tel Aviv as waves of deadly Iranian missiles rain down.โ€

Also remember every article about Palestine ever.

To be clear the speech went โ€œIf we use force weโ€™ll be unstoppableโ€ฆ but I wonโ€™t do that. All we want is a place called Greenland.โ€

Just in case you had any trace of delusion left regarding the American media.

We all know David from Lilo and Stitch is the perfect man, perfect of hair, perfect of ass.

My hypothesis: Disney films frequently give the love interests good hair, but you can TELL most of these boys have no booty to speak of, because Disney is staffed by white people.

Shang: Devastatingly, the hottest man in all of Disney (sorry David) does not let his hair down, but you just KNOW heโ€™s got the best butt of them all.

Prince Naveen has great hair (and WHAT a smolder) but they were afraid giving him a good butt would be racist and the world is poorer for it

Kuzco: no butt, bad hair

Kronk: solid hair but continuing the tragic Disney trend of men who are super jacked and have no booty

Pacha: I canโ€™t even tell. I have no clue. He refuses to be objectified by anyone except his wife and the strange gay teenager theyโ€™ve accidentally adopted.

Little John

I do not have the hubris to judge the hair of a bear, theyโ€™re literally just hair, do we judge the wetness of the ocean, do we judge the woodiness of a log.

Seems to have a generous butt though, as bears generally do!

The neoconservative theory of change is that you can cripple a country's national economy via collective punishment and induce mass protests about the economy which you then in turn use as evidence of discontent with the regime for a casus belli to topple it.

Bessent credits "maximum pressure" sanctions for the #Iran protests
"It's worked because in December, their economy collapsed. We saw a major bank go under. The central bank has started to print money.
There is a dollar shortage. They are not able to get imports, and this is why the people took to the streets.
"This is economic statecraft, no shots fired, and things are moving in a very positive way here."

In case people think I'm exaggerating here's a USG official saying it outright

The point is to collectively punish in the hope that it induces massive upheaval and if they don't do that you just punish them more. When it doesn't work it's taken as evidence that the people haven't been punished enough. Also if you ever think about doing this to the US or Israel you're a bigot.

22.01.2026 17:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 296    ๐Ÿ” 39    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

All I ask for is, basically, just a modicum of consistency. If you're someone who apes for these sanctions regimes that have huge secondary and tertiary effects on the average Iranian, Cuban, etc, but you get mad about Europeans considering that for you, well.

22.01.2026 17:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 311    ๐Ÿ” 47    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 6    ๐Ÿ“Œ 2

To be blunt Americans are just used to hitting people with every stick imaginable and they aren't used to being hit back. It's very likely they won't be hit back for a while but I do think it's inevitable that it happens.

22.01.2026 17:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 226    ๐Ÿ” 25    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 2

Also it's funny that some people on here are going "well if you sanction ME it'll hurt OTHER people who had nothing to do with it!!!'. That's true in basically every instance of a collective sanctions regime. Do these people think non-Iranian neighbors aren't hurt by trade restrictions with Iran?

Just watched Good Fortune and Iโ€™m sure I could find quibbles but mostly Iโ€™m just so glad Keanu Reeves is making the most of being rich enough to take literally any ridiculous role he wants.
