This was my most recent post— 1 month ago. As an immigration lawyer, I have been putting out as many fires as I can, and it’s exhausting. Fast forward to this weekend: Trump defied a federal judge’s order and deported hundreds of Venezuelans. Outrageous & posts won’t fix this Constitutional crisis.

Not to be completely alarmist, but the speed at which our democracy is being dismantled is breathtaking.

So, it looks like migrants are being flown to Guantanamo Bay. This is really quite insane.

Why is the Trump Administration targeting intersex people? This feels very Nuremberg...

Republicans claim to support “legal” immigration.

Day 1: He issued EO’s suspending refugee resettlement and asylum admissions. Both of these are “legal” immigration.

Republicans support the EO.

Trump swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.

Day 1: He issued an EO to end birthright citizenship, which violates the 14th Amendment, and is unconstitutional.

Well, as expected, the 5th Circuit has affirmed the lower court’s decision that DACA is illegal. However, they limited the scope of the injunction to Texas. And then they stayed that decision and remanded. Litigation continues.

TLDR: Nothing has changed for DACA now, but it might. RENEW ASAP.

Joe Biden, who Republicans like to claim has an "open borders" policy, deported more than 271,000 people through the end of September, a 10-year high that beat Trump’s high of 267,000 in 2019.

Trump voters did not vote for tighter border control, they voted for cruelty.

The key takeaway here for me is that the wealthy elite see no value in an educated society, as evidenced by the proposed elimination of Pell Grants and Head Start. They see no value in ensuring that poor kids have equal access to education. Poor adults build wealth for the wealthy.

Gotta admit, it’s kind of delightful, knowing they’d do exactly the same thing.

We refuse to learn from our mistakes. We scapegoat “others” over and over to our own detriment and theirs. Ignorance and hate harm us all.

When I was there under Trump 1.0, there were days that they called no numbers at all from the list— meaning no one was processed. And people were in danger while they waited. I had a client who endured an entire pregnancy in a tent camp and ultimately gave birth on the side of the road. Cruelty.

So glad I left Xitter. All the vitriol and RWBS was exhausting. Happy for the fresh start over here!

DACA is still in peril. I have no doubt Trump will do all he can to end the program.

The only way the border is “open” is that it is not *entirely* closed to asylum seekers and folks with visas. But we know that’s not what folks mean when they claim we have “open borders,” and their claim is, of course, absurd and exhausting.

True— the first rule of applying for asylum is that you must be present in the US. You don’t have to ask at the POE. You can, but that doesn’t constitute an application for asylum, and failing to do so doesn’t preclude your application.

President Sheinbaum pointed out that border crossings have decreased significantly, and that the illegal guns coming from the US strengthen the criminals who provide the drugs that meet the US demand.

IOW, Trump was out-witted, which is not hard but always a delight.
