Which border? russia has to be forced to stop shooting and saying Ukraine can't win and let's talk isn't the way. This only leads to Ukr surrender. He can't have it both ways. He should be judged by his actions-- blocking the confiscation, failing to deliver F16s-- and neither are pro-Ukr

Indeed.

Agreed. The likelihood of the different scenarios also somewhat depends on how decisive or close the results are. A closer result will be an incentive to delay recognition through the courts whereas a landslide for Magyar would lead to quick mobilization to sabotage the new govt

Yes, court cases are likely. But ultimately, I think the transition will look like in Poland. Let's see.

I don't think this risk is significant. Imo, the more likely scenario is that Orban will hold the elections and recognize his loss, but use his control over various accountability institutions to sabotage/paralyze the new Magyar govt to a very significant extent.

This. Also a lot of offended Belgians were telling me De Wever is staunchly pro-Ukrainian, he’s just worried about the legal consequences from confiscating the Ru frozen assets. That he’s now suggesting this soft-on-Ru approach shows he was simply hiding behind legal arguments all along.

If you have time, listen to what Russia is.

They electrocute people.
They torture people.
They steal homes.
They destroy communities, towns and cities.
They abduct children and loot anything they can carry.

And they keep doing it because people like Trump continues to support them.

*Haha, I mixed up "to a theater near you" and "to your city". But yes, the film is great and deserves even driving to a city near you to see it!

The film conveys both the humanity-affirming side of the refugee experience (the warmth of the Polish hosts, the learning from each other) and the deep trauma of losing your home that comes in the most unexpected ways, like finding some old candy from your pre-war life at the bottom of a box...

Yup. The amount of condescending advice that Ukrainians have suffered through rivals the number of bombs that have fallen on their cities

Ukraine’s plan to cut off Russia’s front-line troops is working — The Telegraph Kyiv’s drone campaign base has expanded the ‘kill zone’ without sending soldiers to battle

“Refusing to throw troops into the grinder, Kyiv has taken a diff path to victory-one defined by precision, patience and technology. Now, that strategy is starting to pay off [..] The aim is simple: make it impossible for Ru forces to move forward fast enough to sustain offensive operations.”

Funny how the russians are trying to paint Ukraine simultaneously as a voiceless proxy/colony/vassal and as a cruel colonizing suzerain.

I was thinking this too. Sure, Russia is benefiting from the surging oil prices, but that won't protect its soldiers going into the meat grinder, nor does it alleviate Pu's fear he'll end up like Khamenei, one way or another.

As well as the fact that Russia could see certain gains (surging oil prices!) with the war still highlighting Moscow's increasing geopolitical impotence.

Two things can be true at the same time!

Absolutely! The 1990s called and they want their dirty post-Soviet electoral tricks back. The clone candidate trick is a classic in the genre

This is the new Russian trick they’re using, which shows just how desperate they are. I hope the Hungarians stay vigilant and don’t fall for it.

The latest installment of "if Ru is fighting Nazis, why do all the European Nazis love Ru?". The newest Bulgarian party-- Nation-- wants to leave NATO/euro, join the CSTO/BRICS, ban "gender ideology" and foreign-funded NGOs, emphasize religion/nation in schools, and nationalize major industries.

Europe again embraces unforced errors that help the wrong side. The pressure is not being put on the Hungarian government. It is being put on the Ukrainian government.

The inability to rein in Hungary is damaging enough on its own. But actively pressing Ukraine to comply is simply disgraceful, even (especially) if you offer to pay for the compliance.

We shouldn't be twisting the arms of Ukrainians while they’re fighting on Europe’s behalf.
