which isn’t to say polished work lacks value. it’s more that a novel or record that was written in a very specific mental space or place in life, contains a window through which you can glean a very honest and authentic moment of that life, in a way that very professional rigorously edited work cant

theres a lot of value and beauty in semi unfinished or very raw work. stuff like that tends to let it feel way more like a three dimensional space to me, more vignettey and a product of it’s surrounding environment, rather than layers and layers of editing and refining
