Wasn't disagreeing with your point in the slightest - they do love rolling their dice. They love it even more when it means something special.

This is the way. My GMing approach is to only call for a roll when:
a) The outcome is in doubt
b) There are real stakes
c) Both success and failure yield interesting outcomes

Every time they pick up the dice the result should really matter.

I'm not arguing "OMG Women are awful" or any shit like that by the way. Men are arseholes and there are many more of them in power these days. But any head of state, any ruler, whatever their plumbing, will serve their own needs and turn aggressive when it suits them

In recent years the regrettable predominance of male rulers has given women less chance to start a war. The last UK one was Thatcher in 82, but I believe Indira Gandhi and Golda Meir both started wars in the 70s. Between 1480 and 1913, female rulers were more likely to start wars than male ones.

Agreed - a natural and unforced witty moment is brilliant. People trying to be funny, however, generally aren't. And the rest of the table politely pretending they are by overreacting as though it's the funniest thing ever just encourages them.

You should do a remake of "Just can't get enough" replacing that lyric with "Just can't make it up" in honour (hah) of Richard Littlejohn. Also I just realised "Angry Gammon Market" has the same rhythm as "Champagne Supernova" so that may be worth reworking as a signature theme.
