A very messy sketch, with several layers of attempts of kangaroo like creature scratching themselves.

Sometimes you try and try but no matter how long you spend drawing things don't seem to work! This sketch was meant to be a warm up and a teeny gift for @fairbanksvt.bsky.social But after 4 hours all I had was building blocks. I will likely come back to this later :P

Totally agree. I think the most successful artists I know are usually those who can create even after multiple failures, able to hone in to what they're best at, and never quit trying to get better at their craft.

Most of us understand that drawing isn't a matter of inherent talent, but aquired skill. I also think a lot about how your success in learning to draw might have to do with how well you handle frustration, and how comfortable you are with making mistakes. The barrier i usually see--

All year, we've been watching mallards swim and hang around the moat near the centre of town and I've fallen in love with them. They're wonderful.

Figured I needed some more whimsy in my life so I painted one of the mallards wearing a bottle cap hat and wielding a Lego great sword! #birds #art

Painting of my character, Pudgy Horse, a horse of baroque type appearance with luxuriant mane and tail, and deliberately exaggerated proportions, including short, slender legs with dainty hooves and an extremely generous girth; here painted in tribute to one of the famous horses in the Lascaux cave paintings using similar colours and simplified shapes.

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.
