I mostly stopped caring about the quality of stuff I don't have source code for some time in the last millennium. It's just fundamentally unfixable.

I don't know if it's greediness or just rampant incompetence. They just seem to have no engineering discipline at all. And no shame.

Apparently it's not normal to have an Intel NIC with AMD CPU, an AMD GPU with an Intel CPU, an Intel IOMMU with an AMD CPU. Or some such nonsense.

They just don't care. I'd be ashamed to be part of their engineering team. Windows guests happily initialise an Intel IOMMU and then feed it MSI messages constructed for an AMD IOMMU, and they claim it's not a bug, and ask for "business justification" for fixing it.

Yet simultaneously, they give younger people the wrong idea of how *slowly*...

A few years ago I was in New Zealand and got 4am phone calls from MBNA on two *consecutive* nights asking if I wanted to do a balance transfer. Closed that card the moment I got home.

People who phone my mobile unsolicited will generally be greeted with the questions, "Where am I? What time is it for me right now?".

And when they don't know, I'll demand to know what was so urgent that they had to risk waking me at 3am instead of just sending email like a normal person.

True, they should have had an exemption like this from the start.

This part seems eminently sensible. Most people know to give assets to their family when they expect to live for another 7 years. If these rules are changing, it seems reasonable to grant an exemption to those who are statistically likely to have missed that chance.

An international arrest warrant has been issued for Netanyahu.

It would have been much better to call it off for now and try again with an actual plan, in a few years time.

And there was certainly no "democratic" reason not to do just that.

Even if it made sense to leave the EU, it didn't need to happen then, after the government had spent three years incompetently frittering away the negotiating time without a plan, even coming up with ideas like the backstop, agreeing to them, then going back on their word.

Remember, we are a sovereign nation and we could have left the EU at any time we wanted to.

The Scots waited a little bit longer, came back with a better plan that actually had enough public support, and got their devolution.

By 2019 the result of the referendum HAD been respected, despite the fact that they didn't need to. We had the right to choose what to do next; whether to proceed. There is no sense in claiming that the 2016 result binds MPs' choices three years later; it didn't even bind them at the time.

But you don't send a negotiator in with a blank piece of paper, signed and postdated three years. It is absolutely right and proper that they come back to us with what they've negotiated, for us to approve (or reject) it.
