Farage’s former volunteer aide, George Cottrell, was arrested in the US in 2016 and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud as part of a plea bargain, after being caught in an FBI sting operation.

This funding allegedly covered a London home, security, and trips to the US. In November 2025, two donors with links to the think tank linked to Farages partner Laure Ferrari were convicted of fraud in a Brussels court.

Farage also faced an investigation by the European Parliament’s code of conduct committee and the EU’s anti-fraud watchdog (OLAF) over claims he failed to declare around £450,000 in funding from businessman Arron Banks in the year of the Brexit referendum.

Farage has faced several historical allegations of financial impropriety and fraud, including being docked part of his salary while an MEP to recover funds that had been misspent,
