This is a good lesson for journalists: Use plain language to state true things clearly.

If Democrats continue being who they are, 2027-2029 will be a lot of shrugging because they don't have the votes to do anything. We need the presidency. Once we do that we shrug because the Supreme Court won't let us do anything. Then we all wait for the next fascist to come to power

Big part of my deal is reminding liberals our media habits are very different from the average non political person. And I don’t mean that in a value judgement way, I watch garbage tv too. But it means people simply aren’t aware of 99.9% of the stuff we think is “everywhere.”

Photos of 12 ghost signs painted on brick buildings in Chicago. From top left, l to r: Wizard Oil, Kroll Krib, Val Blatz, Gold Medal Flour, Climax Plug Tobacco, Grocery and Market, Fox Deluxe Beer, Furniture, Gossard Corsets, King Beer, Debbie's School of Beauty Culture, Stern Clothing

A ghost sign collage from a while ago. Not sure how many of these still exist. All in Chicago (I think).

i’m genuinely asking why they can’t move beyond threats like there has to be a reason

why haven’t federal judges moved beyond weak threats? hold these people in contempt and hand out strict sentences or you are just as complicit!!!!

If America still had the rule of law, this would be the easiest prosecution ever, but we all know absolutely nothing will happen.

We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time."
Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed.
That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.

Scotland unveils world's first law that would shift wealth towards local communities This could radically transform how money is distributed throughout the country…and across the globe.

Scotland's Community Wealth Building Bill is a potentially world-changing strategic economic law with the power to end billionaire domination. Little wonder that *zero* English media outlets have covered it.

A watercolor painting of a blue door inset in a wall of peach colored brick. Parts of the brick wall are covered in fading and chipping white paint. Two pay phones are mounted on the wall, though only one of them still has a phone. A sign hangs above the door and reads “No Loitering by order of Chicago Police” in fading letters. A sliver of a larger garage door is seen to the right of the blue door.

This is also a story about caste! Hindutva apologists are far more likely to buy into this kind of MAGA-adjacent eugenicist horseshit if they are also caste supremacists! (Special fuck you to Gavin Newsom for vetoing the bill that would have banned caste discrimination in California.)
