Just upgraded to a new version of Acrobat, and... look.
I am reading a friend's NOVEL. Something I WANT to read. For ENJOYMENT.
Fuck off into the sun and take your designer with you.
Hey, thanks for reading all that! I mean remove all concept of having to swap mode context for actions. (I don't mean only edit mode but all others also) To me these separations of levels of interactions can easily be replaced by more specific tools, instead of having to switch modes before.

I... think I did it? Live fracture in Geometry Nodes. All existing solutions I could find were permanent one-way operations or slow/lossy voxel-based approaches. I won't share this because it's very specific to my needs, but I'll give a simple breakdown in the thread below. ๐๐งต

01.04.2025 08:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Quad modelling is ONLY needed for clean even subdivision and for fast ring/loop selections. Beyond that it doesn't do anything at all, and when exported than imported into games is triangulated.
Triangles are a useful part of efficient game modelling.
Quads are just a tool to get there.
Now seems like a good time to remind everyone of this excellent moderation list you can subscribe to if you don't want to have to see any AI images in your feed.

Select some objects, press shift + A and then add squash and stretch rig

Still on my mind. What concerns me about this shift more than anything is while it can be marketed as a means of creators bucking the system, this additional financial burden can only be taken on by a fraction of artists, thus gentrifying the medium even further.
17.03.2025 20:54 โ ๐ 169 ๐ 51 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 1Do I need to add that there is nowhere I can see in the UI to edit that field?
Also, with all the inheritance and Oop patterns that blender uses, why aren't different types of brushes different subtypes to avoid all this unnecessary data in the brush model?
Wow greasepencil v3 brushes are... interesting.
Now there is only the "brush" tool, which uses brushes which contain the fields : gpencil_tool (!) but also gpencil_vertex_tool, gpencil_sculpt_tool, gpencil_weight_tool ? (and that's only the gp stuff! sculpt etc is also in there)
Nice one #blender3d

At that time I was developing a real-time paint stroke post-processing package for Unity. I moved on because some of the tech + learning in that unlocked an even cooler rendering pipeline that I'm using in our current game.

UI is a very overlooked part of DCC software and probably way more make or break than it's given credit for. So many people are held back just because of UI confusion. It can even break an entire workflow if there's no tech artist to help cut down the bloated interaction cost for the team.

01.09.2024 19:32 โ ๐ 1513 ๐ 541 ๐ฌ 45 ๐ 4My top priorities would be removing the need for edit modes, adding context based panels with buttons for single actions, and offering a way to use parts of the default keymap in custom operators. Letting add-ons use the way users have already set up their shortcuts. No more hardcoded key checks
05.03.2025 08:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I also know that both tools and layouts have been attempt to address this. I still think there is a lot to improve, even while keeping the spreadsheet approach. The discovery problem and the reliance on unchangeable shortcuts (in practice) are doing blender a disservice.
05.03.2025 08:11 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Maybe there isn't a way around delegating workflow decisions to add-ons? I understand that implementing native versions of the ideas from add-ons could be seen as ungrateful. I guess those are the issues of open source and being driven by a community instead of a single vision maybe.
