I was raised without any gods and with science, I'm queer and was an immigrant kid so I've always been a bit of an outlier who is friends with the other different kids and, since I've always been different, people and what makes us tick and believe certain stuff are my special interests.

Yeah, letting the corporations and business schools run universities was a very big mistake and we've been routinely underfunding universities in all Western nations since about the 80s (90s neoliberalism and catering to corporations is responsible for a lot of our suffering).

Yeah, people can be rigid ideologues about anything or map their bigotries onto all kinds of surprising things that seem to be contradictory. It's a bit like how many people think "working class" is a white guy in greasy overalls when the working class is mainly brown people, many wearing skirts.

Indigenous underwater basketweaving techniques are something that would have relevance in a couple of disciplines, the main ones being anthropology and art (craft/design, art therapy, sculptural techniques).

Also, lots of the "nutty" stuff we hear about's decontextualized to ridicule it and is often wrapped up in bigotry. A lot of the big right wing tropes about "liberal/left" universities are based in ignorance (underwater basket weaving, for instance, teaches indigenous technique of basket weaving).

I've never run into that among professors considered "left wing" but plenty of wrong weirdos work everywhere and bad takes on Star Wars are pretty benign next to targeting trans students for abuse. I'm not sure how left wing being anti-immigrant has ever been (Socialism/IWW is internationalist).

Another instructor resumed in-person instruction of Hayes' class this week and will teach it for the rest of the semester, Pittman said. Students walked out on the new instructor in protest on the first day of instruction, Hayes said. He plans on uploading his lectures to DropBox, so his students can finish his curriculum. Lots of them are just white supremacists/bigots (and sadists). Like the rest of us, their ideology is mainly justifying and codifying who they are and what they do. Selfish people like selfish ideologies. This is also why religions always have fundies AND gnostics and a go-along-to-get-along middle.
