Here We Go AgAIn (or something with the Ag-AI-n pun)?
28.09.2025 13:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Excited to watch Jesse Appell talk about "Small Businesses in the Age of Digital Influence" with the House Committee on Small Business today! www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyla...
17.09.2025 18:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Due process is not a liberal concept.
09.09.2025 02:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm so excited that you'll be joining us! I'm happy to find time to discuss my experience teaching at Chicago-Kent. I love the students and faculty - they're helping me to become the best professor I can be, and I'd love to pass on their wisdom! Message me if you'd like to find time to chat :)
21.08.2025 19:19 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I like local-only swag (like little bags of Garrett's popcorn in Chicago or mini chocolates from a local shop). I also once got a chip clip with a strong magnet on the back - it's great for putting things on the fridge and also sealing open bags). +1 for socks and umbrellas!
20.08.2025 20:18 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Then I ask: โHave you ever been confident about something you later found out was wrong?โ We discuss how everyone is "programmed" by life experiencesโsome good, some flawed. Growth comes from engaging with different views. Itโs a great way to start a class built on open, respectful dialogue! (2/2)
11.08.2025 16:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I do an experiment with this in my class! Last year, students asked ChatGPT โHow many Rโs are in strawberry?โ ChatGPT gives the wrong answer (usually it says 2). Then, they have to persuade it that itโs wrong. After sharing results, we talk about persuasion and how tech isnโt always right. (1/2)
11.08.2025 16:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Thanks so much for sharing! I emailed you a few thoughts, and I really appreciate this piece!
10.06.2025 16:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I had an amazing time at WEMIP at Northwestern Law! Mike Schuster and I discussed our project about interactions between attorneys, inventors, and examiners in patent law (or what we lovingly call "The Patent Trifecta")! Special thanks to our exceptional discussant, Melissa Wasserman.
05.06.2025 17:49 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Special shout out to Sean Harrington, whose paper (papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....) is cited in the international search report as relevant prior art!
29.05.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The search report found a relevant piece of prior art (for a 102 or 103 rejection) for every claim filed, and the applicant later rectified the gap between claims 14 and 16 in the originally filed document. We'll have to wait and see how the applicant responds to the first OA (which hasn't come out)
29.05.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I agree with M. Scott Boone. Although the title may specifically refer to legal research, independent claim 1 does not mention legal research (and seems quite broad and generic). Claim 20 (the other independent claim) is the only claim that even mentions the term "legal".
29.05.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Unfortunately, it's not available on Svahausa.com anymore, but sometimes you can get lucky and find it on resale websites!! There was also a patent collared shirt and a unisex t-shirt.
06.04.2025 21:03 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I have an immense amount of support from scholars, but verbal support isn't necessarily enough. Worrying that my planned/promised scholarship cannot come out (in time or ever) because I won't be able to access data is a new level of panic.
19.03.2025 17:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0"The data and likely the related github code are expected to go offline on March 28th." Prepping for classes and writing is hard, but manageable (and I love my students and school dearly). I love working on my inclusion scholarship in intellectual property.
19.03.2025 17:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If you have the resources to download, archive, and advertise open access to data, that's incredibly helpful for empirical scholars right now. I rely on patentsview.org for a lot of my work, and we just heard that "the USPTO is terminating the PatentsView contract."

24.02.2025 16:14 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0โข transgender** - personal identity expression
โข equality - equal rights
I see banned words and I'll use my thesaurus. Please suggest revisions, especially ones with asterisks. Those were the most difficult for me to define, but there are certainly others that could use some revision!
โข intersectionality - interconnected social identities
โข prejudice - preconceived opinion
โข privilege - advantage
โข racial identity - ethnic self-conception
โข sexuality - sexual orientation
โข stereotypes - generalized assumptions
โข pronouns โ personal identifiers
โข equitableness - justness
โข feminism - women's rights movement
โข gender** - sex category
โข gender identity** - personal identity experience
โข inclusion - integration
โข inclusive - all-embracing
โข all-inclusive - comprehensive
โข inclusivity - acceptance
โข injustice - unfairness
โข anti-racism - anti-discrimination
โข racism - racial prejudice
โข allyship - supportive advocacy
โข bias - skewed perspective
โข DEI - representation, fairness, and acceptance
โข diversity - variety
โข diverse - varied
โข confirmation bias - belief reinforcement
โข equity - fairness
"Injustice" also seems to be a concerning addition to the list.

University-filed patent applications demonstrate increased gender parity in allowance rates and continued prosecution, compared to their small and large entity industry equivalents. Thank you so much to UGA - Terry College of Business, MIT, and Chicago-Kent for supporting our efforts. (2/2)
21.01.2025 18:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I am so proud of this joint work with Mike Schuster in Scientific Reports. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39814744/ โGender Inventorship Equity in Patent Prosecution,โ shows how each stage of examination individually contributes to a lower aggregate grant rate for female inventors. (1/2)
21.01.2025 18:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Women, people of color, and women of color are more visible in representing the federal government (as opposed to private-sector clients) in patent appeals. Those original findings inform our proposals to make the patent system, and high-level law practice generally, more diverse and inclusive.
22.12.2024 16:57 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In this piece, we show the lack of diversity by gender and race of those presenting oral arguments at the Federal Circuit in patent cases. The disparities (with white men presenting 82% of oral arguments and women of color presenting 2%) bear no correlation to attorney performance.
22.12.2024 16:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So excited to celebrate the publication of "Inequality on Appeal: The Intersection of Race and Gender in Patent Litigation", co-authored with Paul Gugliuzza and @rebouche.bsky.social.
