I think it shows just how powerful the government of the day’s ability to agenda-set really is. “How do we win” is the government’s only real vision, and as a result British politics is uniquely obsessed with the next election too.

Small case in point - I was at Euston yesterday, which meant inevitably you get a great view of the ongoing troubles of the West Coast Main Line - something that currently, Labour's plan to fix is 'by 2029, it will still be bad, but we will be branded as our fault'.

The closer than the Tories get to Reform, the more it makes sense for Labour to leave them to it and head back towards the centre. Stop bashing immigrants 24/7 and concentrate on the important stuff.
