We encourage excellent early career scientists (i.e., PhD candidate gaining doctoral degree before 9 September or scientist with max. 8 y full-time equivalent experience in research by 9 September), who are interested in applying for a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ecology at the University of Tromsø (UiT) to send in their application (max. 3-page CV & 2-page project plan). Deadline for application of intramural selection of candidates is 16 February. Chosen candidates will be supported by UiT to write an application for MSCA postdoctoral fellowship (deadline 9 September 2026). If granted (21-39% success rate for intramurally supported applications since 2018), the project shall start 1 May 2027. Regarding scientific background of project, we are interested in estimating the impact of ocean warming on benthic communities. For this purpose, unheated settlement panels (= control) and panels heated 1, 2, and 3 °C above ambient seawater temperature have been put out at 10 m depth in a fjord near the island of Tromsø in September 2024 (more information at Heated settlement plates (HSPl) in global experimentation: Experiences, research questions, future applications and collaborations). All panels had been photographed after 1 y of field incubation in September 2025 and more sampling is planned in 2026, to take samples for species identification ("ground truthing" of photographed individuals in collaboration with David Barnes at BAS, UK) and gene expression studies. Furthermore, there are tank facilities at UiT to measure physiological responses of organisms from unheated and heated panels. We are interested to hear about your ideas and read your research plan within the scope of the heated panels experiment.
