Halloween is not very busy in my neighborhood, which is why everyone gets a handful of candy.

They're absolutely going for camp, and I appreciate that. It's a brilliant movie in the unsung "Meticulously planned murders with a unified theme" subgenre that Seven kinda sucked all the fun out of.

He is, BUT he didn't have to do that thing with his hand.

So it's more of a delivery choice.

I love it other than a super-unfortunate word choice in that very scene.

Halloween Hot Take: Ghostface is not a good horror icon because it's like 15 fuckin' people and they all do exactly the same thing (and it's not interesting).

So, I've just watched Coyotes (2025), and I have some thoughts. First of all, pretty much everyone in the movie is the worst fucking person you've ever seen. But also I'm pretty sure that other than a few practical things, all the special effects in this movie (and more) were gen-A.I.

Coyotes is not an otherwise good movie that happens to contain some generated things, like Late Night With the Devil. It's a mediocre movie that becomes a bad movie because its creators chose convenience over art.

I allege.

All of this is to say: If you can't be bothered to make your movie — if you phone in things like WALL ART, which should be fun and provide great opportunities to subtly define and explain characters — why should you expect anyone to watch it?

Justin Long and Kate Bosworth acting in front of an overheating computer's fever dream of a rumor of what movie posters would look like if you drew them with your eyes closed and didn't know what people looked like.

It's not just the coyotes. All the art on every wall in every house looks generated. I think these are supposed to be movie posters, but none of them are the right size or proportions.

The coyote has no ears or neck or perhaps even a head, I dunno, it's a mouth and then some eyes and it looks like shit.

This one just looks fucking ridiculous.

The fur on the back is especially weird. Focus is focus, but that is for sure smudging because robots don't know shit.

Another computer's nonsense daydream about what it's calculated the average of several stolen videos of a coyote to be.

When you've definitely seen a coyote with your human eyes.

First off, the movie is confident enough in its bullshit that it shows you a bunch of stock footage of actual, scrawny coyotes.

Then you see things like this. If it's CG, it's bad. But it for sure has that gen-A.I. tinge to it.
