I've previously had something like that - dealing with a developer so obnoxious/intolerable that over a dozen people independently reached to managers to say they refused to work with him in any project.

I can't help but think this has to do a lot with work history. Big tech hiring devs straight out of college (usually ivy league), telling them they are the best thing since sliced bread leads to *insufferable* people that nobody wants to work with.
