Bright orange California poppies growing between the sidewalk and building foundation

These California poppies, 😍

I had thought that these were Acalypha virginica, but I now realize on inspection that these are Rhomboid Mercury (Acalypha rhomboidia). I have deleted a few previous posts of this population as tiny, undeveloped plants. These were shot on August 5th of last year.

A little viola seed randomly found its way into the crack between pavement and landscaping timber, turning into a delightful flower.

And fully back in this shot. The species varies from bright green to a purple-red, mostly depending on stress. Individuals of the species growing in cracks tend to be very stressed and are often more red than those in good dirt.

Woodsorrel doesn't have (true) clover shaped leaves. It has heart-shaped leaves, which that does, but they are somewhat folded back. You can see them partially back in this shot.
