"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all."

Arthur C. Clarke

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford Medicine have devised an influenza vaccine that prompts immunity to ALL four major flu subtypes AND shows potential against bird flu, indicating a significant advancement in flu prevention and a potential increase in vaccine efficacy. Let’s talk about that! πŸ§ͺπŸ§΅β¬‡οΈ

One of the things I still don’t understand is how these tech bros can be pro-technology and anti science.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing. Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

I wish people would post more links to interesting things

I feel like Twitter and LinkedIn and Instagram and TikTok have pushed a lot of people out of the habit of doing that, by penalizing shared links in the various "algorithms"

Bluesky doesn't have that misfeature, thankfully!

Is this the way COVID ends? Next-generation inhaled vaccines could be the key to ending pandemic Existing COVID-19 vaccines can prevent severe disease, but not infection. A new hope comes in the form of needle-free mucosal vaccines.

"McMaster is about to begin Phase 2 trials on a COVID-19 vaccine that is inhaled using a device similar to an asthma inhaler. It is the most promising mucosal COVID-19 vaccine under development in Canada and is expected to be tested in Canadian cities, including Ottawa, next year."
