It must have been fun digging that stuff out! Some jewelry makers prefer that really colorful PW but it takes a lot of work and time to turn a nice profit on a bulk purchase like that. For me, the fun is finding wood permineralized in such a way that the species is identifiable and sometimes rare.

I lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y. for a time and I had a pretty good spot on Lake Champlain to detect for a while. Silver Canadian quarters would turn up occasionally but they were earlier than 1968. Cool to learn that some from that year could be silver though!

I got to try drying and making a tea from yaupon holly leaves when I lived in Tx. I found it to have a pleasant taste and the caffeine seemed to be about the equivalent of Lipton tea or something. It grew alongside Japanese Holly which I understand is toxic, but it’s easy to learn the difference!

I decided to tumble a barrel of strictly petrified wood last week. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it up to change to the next grit! The 4 smaller pieces are from PNW beaches. The large one I picked up rock hounding on a friend’s ranch near San Antonio when I lived in Tx. #rockhound
