Alas my ERC starting grant was not passed to stage 2. I always knew my goal was just to get the second part read and this just feels like one more kick in the teeth. Guess I'll buy some new jumping spikes tonight....

I wonder if there are any academics out there who have taken a step back from a permanent position to a post-doc. I'd be interested to talk to anyone who has made this decision as I'm contemplating it as a possibility.

I recently sequenced an interesting bacterial genome, with the idea of making the interesting recombinant genes from this strain.
Problem: after a morning searching the genes of interest just aren't there. Not a trace, and all literature says there should be 2 copies. ๐ญ๐คฏ #help

After optimizing said script went it's time to load in 265 sequences not 1. Yeah that's going to take my poor little computer ~18 hours ๐ญ๐ฅด

Something really big happened this week. No I didn't submit that fellowship, nor did I get my 4* refable paper.
No I got a diagnosis after 6 years of begging to be tested. ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน It's official I am what I am ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน and that is very much neurospicy.

So after some digging, David Dryden is now retired...so back to the original question does anyone have or know anyone with David Dryden's collection - specifically after NM1261(DE3) and/or NM1261 ๐๐๐ looks like it could be very useful for some of my mechanistic work.

Being autistic can mean many things for people. One might not be comfortable with sound, whereas another might not be bothered in the slightest. One can't cope with food mixing with other foods on the plate; to someone else, it doesn't matter.
Truth be told, one set of traits doesn't fit all.

Thank you ๐ I will take a look and see if I can source it. Seems like a very useful strain but all the papers I read were so old so assumed it would have been deposited

Plastic Free July is an initiative to reduce plastic wasteโป๏ธ
Reducing your use of single-use plastic is a simple way to take part. Plastic debris, such as microplastics, serve as a vessel for microbial growth and can facilitate the development of Antimicrobial Resistant strains.

Don't worry I think the same about this place to be honest. 2 grants rejected and 2 papers rejected so far this year....but then again teaching has been really rewarding - seeing the visually impaired student recieving her degree today was one of the highlights of my year.
