Robert Barron appears a strange man to me. He seems to have a lot of time and effort invested in what some would call the cult of personality. It’s unseemly for a cleric.
BBC News asks:
"Why do Glasgow's historic buildings keep catching fire?"
The Union dome is maybe an exception, but as everyone in the Weeg knows, it normally it has to do with planning permission for a development, some Council U-turn, and then a building mysteriously catching fire!
am I missing a trick or has the BBC failed to carry the news of Jane Lapotaire's passing? It's everywhere else. (Mind you, their website is shocking.)
Rest in Peace. You will be sadly missed.
I did enjoy the almost hysterical, and simultaneously reverent, portrayal of Princess Alice of Battenberg.
I always felt that episcopal referred more to actual bishops. But then that’s immediately refuted by the name of our churches! 🤣
Wowee! That’s wonderful news. You’ll be filled with trepidation, but wonderful news for you both.
I played no part in it except wishing for it, so I will nonetheless claim my smug role as Yente. ❤️
I agree with you 100%! I have seen deplorable bigoted behaviour during Orange Marches when living in Glasgow, but I've seen it the other way round too. Why we can't root this disgusting (and although violent, in a way puerile) behaviour out is beyond me.
You're right: clubs need to lead the change!
Police chief criticises football disorder

-- she's right, but this is, to quote the former Bishop of Motherwell, Scotland's "not so secret" shame. Sectarianism.
It has no place in civilised society. We can't raise bairns to just hate folk because of football/religion.
I say a nominated Senate for reserved matters, and turn the Commons in an English Parliament with roughly same powers as existing devolved ones. Vide.
bsky.app/profile/bols...
or, here’s an alternative:
A chamber of a number divisible by eight (two times four). Scotland, England, Wales & Northern Ireland all nominate a quarter, a half of that by the executive, and a half by the opposition.
Only for reserved matters obvs. Plus the Commons turns into English Parliament! 🤭
The amount of people who no longer say “thank you”” to the bus driver is annoying. 🚌
Or is this a Scottish/Edinburgh thing?
clap is to pet or stroke 😉
Today I had ube (Starbucks). I didn’t dislike it. But venti was too large. 🥴
It’s dead easy: ye hear a wee woof woof and go, “ach, haud yer wheesht”, then ye see this wee adorable scrap, ask as nice as ye like, “can I clap yer dug?”, and instantly ye’re wantin tae mak aff wi it.
Tuesday morning bonus: some Scots idiom.
iCloud web Reminders is deliberately hamstrung. Unlike iOS, you can't sort in date order, editing is poor or buggy, and the UI is clunky.
This punishes people who HAVE invested in Apple's ecosystem (e.g. iPhone, iPad, even MacBook), but who for whatever reason need to see/edit Reminders on Windows.
I love Seattle Opera’s reaction:
"All we have got to say is use promo code TIMOTHEE to save 14% off select seats for Carmen, through this weekend only. Timmy, you're welcome to use it too."
😅😂🤣
I can sympathise. Getting these last few modules done, I’ve really let myself go.
Proud of you for any and all progress you make. Never let others define how you “should” look, but I know how you can feel yourself that change is needed. Send some success vibes here. 🤗
Consummatum est.
After six years, I have just submitted the last assignment for my degree. I feel strangely lacking now there is nothing left to do!
well yeah, kinda. I have the weird fortune of being born Anglican, attending Catholic primary schools when you did go to church, converting to Catholicism, going off to seminary, and then reverting to Anglicanism later.
So yeah, I recognise all those and a lot more. Who kisses their thumb still? 😮
I only know his soundtrack to Kundun (epic Scorcese film about the Dalai Lama) and that is well banging!
Because, there was me converting with some humility, careful not to say anything nasty about Anglicans or Catholics. There was he, presumably all fired up from being ordained, shooting his mouth off about a tradition he knew for less time than me (I was born an Anglican). It smacks of bad manners.
it means being celebrated or highly praised, even to the point of being made a fuss of.
Kinda like when you have a “distinguished guest” at some fancy function.
weird! He is from Pennsylvania originally.
He did spend about ten years in the UK. But that wouldn’t change the way you write, if, after all, you left in 1995!
Mind you, maybe that’s why he gets stuff wrong…too long ago? 🤭
He’s a barefaced liar. He was fêted about the time in converted to Roman Catholicism (same time as he was re-ordained). My face always burned with embarrassment when I heard him.
At first it was just little mistakes. Now I think he deliberately pushes the envelope to see how far he can go.
He’s wrong, but he always is. Thinks that because he was an Anglican cleric he has carte blanche to criticise us. Only thing is, he wasn’t an Anglican long enough, or clearly wasn’t paying enough attention, so he always gets the facts wrong. Always.
It’s tedious. The man is a sanctimonious shill.
Do you guys have consumer rights organisations? Or a local (state?) department that deals with fair trading? I think you need to threaten them somehow. I just don’t know how to do that in the USA. 🇺🇸
and given a weirdass role that doesn’t really exist! “SHIELD of the Americas”… yasss! 🛡️ (I mean, wtf)
I was going to speak to my S.D. about it, but I was “doing my homework” first too! 😁 Thanks.
The articles says he faces a disciplinary?
But anyhow, isn’t he the one who flitted around between a few dioceses, after having been an administrator of some sort and it taking too high a toll on him? (I recognise the name, you see.)
Can anybody recommend a really good edition of St Ignatius of Loyola’s ‘Spiritual Exercises’. (I mean, super excellent.)
I’m not particularly after anything with a commentary tacked on, but I’d like a good and full text. ✝️⚓️
I saw a news piece saying they want to elect their own rival to the Archbish of Cantab.
Anglican divisions deepen as rebel clerics pick rival to first female leader www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
…but more generally that they want to impose their views on people. Sorry, the world has moved on!
