Spent the weekend with my Scouts at Valley Forge
I don’t usually go to Trader Joe’s but when I do, I go to the Trader Joe’s in downtown Brooklyn near where Washington’s troops built a fortification in defense of New York City in 1776.

@danbullock.bsky.social was on my podcast today, just like I was on his! You should preorder a copy of Penitent while you still can--it's going to be very cool. youtu.be/i3K1OIkVJF4
A solo game about prison design and competing theories of criminal reform in the 19th-century? Heck yes! Just preordered Penitent from @danbullock.bsky.social

Saturdays are often for big games and this Saturday was no different. A game of the @avalonhill1.bsky.social classic Empires In Arms that has been running for months at a full seven players continued, and six players tackled @fantasyflightgames.bsky.social Twilight Imperium in a single sitting.
One of our favorite things about the club is when new people find us when visiting NYC from out of town. We were glad to have Jonathan from Oregon find us this weekend while traveling the East Coast on business.

How I started my Valentine’s Day at @metrowargamers.bsky.social
Great to see you and play this tonight @colanyar.bsky.social
Went to @metrowargamers.bsky.social and one of our members pulls out a playtest of a game he’s making about the 1905 Russian Revolution. Four of us for three hours, scribbling on cards and iterating rules. This is why this club is the best for over 40 years — camaraderie, community and play.
Up early for an 8am Saturday game at HMGS Cold Wars 2026 with the Battle of Le Petit Fort on the shores of Lake Michigan, December 5, 1780.

Friday morning at HMGS Cold Wars 2026 with the Battle of Freeman’s Farm September 19, 1777. The British pulled off an ahistorical victory and held the field. #coldwars2026
Thursday evening at HMGS Cold Wars 2026 with the Battle of White Plains, October 28, 1776. Our Colonial forces effectively held off the hesitant British and live to fight another day.
Just a fun game to end the regular season with the @buffalo-bills.bsky.social

Let’s go @buffalo-bills.bsky.social like it’s 1973 at Rich Stadium

Sol: Last Days of a Star from Elephant Laboratories
Votes for Women from @fortcircle.bsky.social, votes secured.
Played down at @metrowargamers.bsky.social
Big game today of Imperial Elegy from @vucasimulations.bsky.social back where it began at the club years ago. At the full player count, the game ran 10 hours and ended with the Ottomans, Russia and Austria-Hungary annihilating France, the UK and Germany at the outset of the Great War.

Grabbed some new American Revolution books as I look forward to the 250th anniversary next year and the new documentary from @kenburns.bsky.social premiering on @pbs.org November 14th.
Picked up a copy of Nations & Canons from @flagbearergames.bsky.social
core rulebook, GM screen and a cloth print of the 1770 Ratzer map of NYC. The map is one of my favorite objects in the world - I often go visit the original copy at the Brooklyn Historical Society (one of three in existence).
Always a nail biter with the @buffalo-bills.bsky.social

The club kicked off November with a big day of games. Eight players convened for the ongoing Empires In Arms while other tables saw games of Almoravid, Shiloh: The First Day and From the Moon.

Cross Bronx Expressway, Merchants & Marauders, Dune Imperium and the Avalon Hill classic Trireme all on the table at the club today.
The Battle of Agincort, October 25, 1415 (610 years ago today).

Big day at the club with a members meeting welcoming five new members. Then, there were games — Kill Team, Red Dust Rebellion, Sol and Falling Sky among others.
Cross Bronx Expressway from @gmtgames.bsky.social was on the table for the first time at the club today. It was a group loss in the 1970s as the South Bronx collapsed into disenfranchisement. Many lessons learned and we’re looking to a replay soon.
