British runner - believed to be world's oldest marathon finisher - killed in road accident Fauja Singh was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries while trying to cross a road in his birth village of Beas Pind in India - and first ran the London Marathon at the age of 89.

Sad news. This gent was a legend. When I was a HT in London we invited him to run a marathon in 100m shuttle runs with the children in the playground. Between them they ran the full marathon length with him. It took all day. He ran to the school and then ran home afterwards (Ilford). He was 94. πŸ™πŸΌ

Liverpool win record-equalling 20th league title with rout of Tottenham * Slot claims Premier League in first season as head coach * 5-1 win over Tottenham seals title with four games left Liverpool have won a record-equalling 20th league title in a stunning debut season for Arne Slot after beating Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield. The 46-year-old, who took on the seemingly unenviable task of succeeding JΓΌrgen Klopp last summer, becomes the first man in Liverpool’s illustrious history to win the championship in his debut season with the club. Anfield was ready to celebrate at kick-off, but there was an early setback when Dominic Solanke unexpectedly headed Spurs in front after 12 minutes. Liverpool hit back quickly, Luis DΓaz’s equaliser awarded after a VAR review, before Alexis Mac Allister smashed home in the 23rd minute to put the hosts in front. Cody Gakpo struck from a corner before half-time to leave the outcome all but guaranteed. Continue reading...

Ten Rules for Aspiring Poets

1. Poetry does not have to rhyme.
Well, at least notΒ all the timeΒ always.

2. Metaphors can lend a poem power
     (but mixing them isn’t good).
Should they start to fly in all directions,
      nip them in the bud.

3. Focus and concentration
     are important skills to hone.
Close the door. Turn off the wi-fi.
Don’t get distracted by your ph

4. Avoid clichΓ©s like the plague.

5. Don’t write stuff that’s a bit vague.

6. The use of unnecessarily long words
     may result in reader alienation.
     Curb your sesquipedalianism
     to obviate any obfuscation.

7. Always proof-read you’re work.
Accuracy can be it’s own reward!
     And remember that the penis

     or too many syllables.

9. Never ever follow rules.

I’m re-reading 1984 and was reminded of Newspeak’s really helpful way of categorising things:

*Plusungood
*Ungood
*Good
*Plusgood
*Doubleplusgood

β€˜Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed by exactly one word.’

Not sure if it will ever catch on in education, but just a thought. πŸ™„

The book offers some helpful case study examples of how intelligent, rigorous and robust peer review can complement and support low stakes inspection. Strong governance is key though, especially in a multi-school organisation.
