I’m taking a night off from basketball to watch the new episodes of #TheTraitors because it’s my comfort show.

Can’t say enough encouraging things about local radio and local news coverage in LA last couple days. These are places that have been financially gutted outside of reporters’ control. Those reporters are out here with a 24/7 feed explaining and calmly assessing and getting people information.

It’s so eerie watching USC play in the middle of a Maryland snow globe knowing they’re going home to a city on fire. I can’t imagine trying to keep my head in a game with an undefeated team right now.

Maryland/Rutgers vs Maryland/USC. Support your local teams regardless of their opponents, y’all. Fan communities are fun. Knowing lore no one else knows cuz you were there is fun. Watching a team grow over time is fun.

When work actually creates profits for YOU, and not just some faceless owner, you’re enthusiastic about making a great product, and the fans/consumers also benefit.

One of the things that isn’t mentioned enough when we compliment @unrivaledwbb.bsky.social and their content strategy is how, before a single camera was on them, the players were bought in because this is a worker cooperative and the leagues’ success means their success.

When the Maloofs made these decisions I was close to the organization, so I understood how & why the sausage was made - they were trying to run the team for profit so they could afford an arena, & so they needed to give fans *something* while knowing they couldn’t afford a winning team.

I know his rotations were frustrating at times but when you need to trade for a high value asset you have to showcase the players who can get trade value back, not your low budget bench guys. This wasn’t going to be a deep playoff team as constructed.

Vivek continuing the Kings tradition of ownership blaming a coach for the mid roster they built performing at about the level a rational person would expect it to perform, rather than investing in roster improvements.

Also, I don’t want to hear that Netflix can’t afford to pay writers and actors when they can afford to buy a mediocre football game no one asked for with a 20+ person broadcast team.

We coulda just had a holiday Beyoncé livestream without an NFL game and saved Netflix a lot of money. The NBA put out a far better sports entertainment product.

Also, they’re in Vegas. They have a lot of other celebration options besides drinking sponsored beverages in a locker room with reporters look on.

I can’t imagine what all these close game heartbreaks does to one’s psyche, but one of the things that impresses me about this year’s Kings is that they’ve stopped doing the young team thing where a bad run means a bad game. #SacramentoKings

I appreciate that the #Spurs have reasonable ticket prices and thus the folks I see on the fan cam look like the fanbase. It bothers me when a team is in a diverse city but the arena attendees aren’t diverse because some populations are priced out.

Thinking a lot about how the ratings decline is going to impact the next round of NBA collective bargaining in 2030. Much like Hollywood strikes, I think we’ll see talent asked to accommodate the league making a shortsighted bet on media deals with a bunch of disconnected streaming platforms.
