But Home Alone is inherently a Christmas Movie, and Die Hard is not. In my opinion.

I would argue that Die Hard *2* is more fundamentally a Christmas Movie than the original, but all in all, it doesn’t really matter. We can all choose to celebrate the season in our own way.

But just because a movie takes place on Christmas doesn’t NECESSARILY make it a Christmas movie.
And all of that could be entirely excised from the film without changing any of the basic plot line.

A NY cop in LA finds himself as the only thing stopping a band of terrorists from taking over a downtown high rise.
One could also argue that all of those other things are *inserted* into the movie to make it more “Chrismassy”, which is their only function in the film.
They could’ve been doing a big retirement party for Nakatomi in the building instead.
Nothing changes.
John could’ve been visiting his kids to surprise them for one of their birthdays.
Nothing changes.
