Maybe it wasn’t actually a great idea to elect a president who is so vulnerable to sexual blackmail

I'm saying I think the only reason he is a registered Democrat is because he was ran his first campaign in Alameda. But, politically he's a Republican. The substantive parts of his campaign basically amount to corporate tax cuts and deregulation.

Why would actual Democrats back Swalwell? He'd have an R next to his name if he had launched his political career anywhere other than the Bay Area.

Minneapolis eviction notice extension ordinance vetoed by Mayor Frey Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has vetoed an ordinance that would have extended eviction notices to 60 days, up from 30, until August for renters in the wake of increased immigration enforcement.

Mayor Frey’s veto today will contribute to mass evictions of residents in our city who were targeted by Operation Metro Surge.

It is always more cost-effective to prevent eviction than to try and re-house families who have been evicted. It’s commonsense policy, rooted in compassion.

And because capitalism is all about efficiency, about wringing out every last drop of competitive advantage, systems of capitalism require constant vigilance and regulation otherwise they will end up unrestrained. In a very real sense capitalism is antithetical to a functioning society.

Capitalism doesn't have space for caring about others, or for holding back. "It's just business," "to the mattresses," " greed is good." Unrestrained capitalism rewards sociopathy and penalizes empathy, forcing society to evolve to be ever more cruel and more dysfunctional.

It's capitalism. Capitalism has always loomed large in American culture, but it was moderated. By mainline Christian doctrine along with the mores of a democracy--a sense of community and civic responsibility. But capitalism won and those other values were either pushed aside or co-opted.

GOP advantage here has always been based on lying, misinformation and a complicit media. Since those things haven't changed, this is--at best--a blip. Dems can't count on any of this lasting. We can't just move on to business as usual. There has to be hearings and prosecutions for crimes this time.

I've 100% given up on capitalism at this point. All it does is train us to be narcissistic sociopaths.

It's the Washington Post, of course it's going to be garbage.

Sometimes I think about Jamie Leigh Jones, gang raped in Baghdad when she was 19 by a bunch of KBR employees who never saw a day in jail because contractors had carte blanche for crimes in Iraq. KBR even sued her for $2m in court costs.

Anyway, I guess Iran bombed their regional HQ in Basra today.

Adherence to the Constitution & the law. Adherence to the truth - we were told after last year’s bombing that Iran’s nuke program was “obliterated.” Opposition to regime change - it’s not our right to tell another sovereign nation who should govern them. That’s just a start John.

The NYT bemoaning the destruction of US scientific institutions is peak irony. This is like the Menendez brothers crying about being orphans.

A long time ago, I used to know a lot about foreign-imposed regime change (FIRC) and study them.

I guess that makes me qualified to write a thread about them, especially in wake of Trump bombing Iran.

So here goes nothing. 🧵

Don't be fooled by this bill's name-- this is a book banning bill that will exclude LGBTQ books from all public schools NATIONWIDE.

Call your congresspeople and tell them to VOTE NO on this nakedly bigoted book banning bullshit.

And I'm still convinced the primary reason everyone started focusing on it was to shift the national debate away from MeToo and the growing awareness of child predators in elite circles.

Newsom's campaign platform amounts to "stop being welcoming to marginalized groups and start being nicer to pedophiles."

If somebody attempts a coup, and then they’re not held accountable by elites and institutions, the public will draw the conclusion that it’s not a big deal.

Fun fact: the NYT editorial board has more than one member listed in the Epstein files, and as participants in email correspondence with Epstein.
