IQ tests *are* cognitive tests.

Laypeople tend to think of IQ as one number that says how smart you are, but modern tests are a useful measure of a broad range of cognitive skills and allow comparisons between different domains of ability.

Of course they do. You don’t think a hospital serving soldiers needs to be able to track the cognitive impact of traumatic brain injuries?

The same folks were rhapsodizing about “re-lactation” during the infant formula shortage.

It doesn’t hurt, from their perspective, that the “never change America” crowd feel pressured to accept this, to wrap their mouths around words of approval. It intensifies their submission.

The shock and the sense of violation people are feeling is 100% intentional. They had to work hard to keep this quiet.

They did it to inflict pain. They did it to present the image that they can act with impunity, and that we’re helpless.

The suddenness of the East Wing’s destruction means that either they spent days removing and safeguarding art and historical artifacts and reusable furnishings in *absolute secrecy* from the press and the public…

…or they didn’t.

I showed up (online) to a committee meeting and found out that I am not actually on the committee!

I cannot begin to describe the joyful feeling of liberation involved.

(Hilariously, my teenage daughter IS on the committee and had to stay behind when I walked from the webcam to freedom.)

The US also had the Catholic Worker movement! But yeah, right-wing political beliefs have warped Christian teaching here, and it’s only getting worse.

Political stances that arise from Protestant fundamentalism get grafted onto Catholic theology, because the lines between political and religious beliefs have been so effectively blurred.

It’s how you wind up with “trad Catholics” being outraged that the pope opposes capital punishment.

No one under 50 goes through childbirth, apparently.

In the right wing universe it is simultaneously true that:

(1) young people don’t need much medical care so it’s a trifling expense for them

(2) young people’s medical care is so astronomically expensive that the government cannot possibly afford it

The Steerswomen books are SO RIDICULOUSLY GOOD and I have been waiting for the next one for a ridiculously long time!

People advocating against peace without strategy or tactics do not want you to *win*. They want you to be delegitimized.
