It was the most surreal experience to be living in a city ravaged by wildfires while writing about fires and climate change, and trying to survive the terrible things humankind has done to our planet.
Anyway, this is the highlight of my 2025. Feeling grateful.
But at the heart of the book, it’s still the same story. And it feels like an important time to get this novel out there, with climate change as prevalent today as it was when I was a teen.

The Los Angeles wildfires this week have been the most devastating, surreal and terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. Although I’m safe, I am on 61 hours of no power. My heart breaks for this city I love and have called home for close to a decade.

The novel will follow Tess (22) and her daughter Maisie (6) as they navigate the crumbled ruins of society left behind from The Shift. Tess aspires to find somewhere safe to raise her daughter, and as her hope begins to wane, a voice crackles through an old radio… speaking of a safe haven.
