Better cycle infrastructure could be partially funded by Section 75 agreements with developers. Many councils such as Edinburgh choose not to request them. Given number of student developments round here, could pay for Fountainbridge improvements.
This building used to host 5 separate companies. Now being demolished for yet more cheaply built student accommodation, which will no doubt become a short term let during the summer. No council request for a section 75 agreement. Funny that.
Join us for our next in-person meeting focused on road safety and traffic in our community. Cllrs Stephen Jenkinson and others will be there to hear resident views & discuss the issues.

All residents welcome!
In shock news, motorists have switched to public transport to avoid paying the Oxford Congestion Charge.
A spokesperson* said: "This is exactly what was meant to happen, and it did."
Can anyone explain how you can demolish a large care home with nothing more than a building warrant? You don't need planning permission for what will replace the building. @thecockburn.bsky.social ?
Old Salvation Army building now demolished on Colinton Road
Map from 2025 showing Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) in the greater Fountainbridge area. I'm only aware of 1 of these that has had to pay a "section 75" agreement for local active travel improvements. Wonder how many are now also Short Term Lets? @thecockburn.bsky.social
Also happened to Slateford House. Developer applies for planning permission to create modest apartments suitable for small families wanting to buy their first home. Once permission was granted they were let at STLs after planning agreed this was fine. @ntbcc.bsky.social @edinreporter.bsky.social
Tactile non-dropped kerb fail next to Kingsknowe Station. Would love to know the thought process behind this. Been here a longtime @living streetsedi.bsky.social
This gap site on Robertson Avenue was supposed to be developed by a housing association. Is the housing crisis over?

Works began on safety improvements at Longstone Primary and Redhall School’s shared entrance. Many children cross here through taxis, school staff, PHCs, and minibuses at pick up/drop off time. Pedestrians are to be prioritised here in accordance with the transport hierarchy. 👍
Quartermile. Enough room for parked cars, not enough room for a pavement that meets the councils absolute minimum pavement width. No idea why this was allowed by city planners or city ROADS team. Reasonably new development.
Another pertinent entry in our Edinburgh narrow pavements competition; and close to a busy place of interest.
The stated aim of Edinburgh Council's roads team is to prioritise TRAFFIC movement. That's why this ROAD sign has been dumped on a pedestrian crossing. Busy area for pedestrians. Junction of Gorgie Road and Ardmillan Terrace.
… says the website that tracks you and sells your data to 1,500 ‘partners’ 🫠
MATHS TEST:
It takes two men two days to dig a hole 3m wide, 3m long and 2m deep;
and it takes one man one day to replace a paving slab 1m long and 2m wide...
How long will it take Edinburgh Council to remove a white line on the pavement on Leith Walk?
I'd long wondered if Clarence was an acronym (because Strathclyde had a wee dog called RALF - Road & Light Faults). I thought it might be 'Central and Lothian something'; it was Customer Lighting And Roads ENquiry CEntre.
Imagine if traffic lights for vehicles were designed like this? You can't actually see if the lights are green until you're right in front of them. Presumably pedestrian crossing designed by and for DRIVERS convenience. @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @thecockburn.bsky.social
Signs saying Harrison Road closed taking up majority of pavement width on Slateford Road. This is very close to a bus stop on a fast main road.
CEC - hang your head in shame. Your project - can't blame others

Constantly get cars cutting onto the wrong side of the road divider to get to the rat run quicker from Ashley Terrace also, which has made for some 'fun' near-misses.
Residents of Primrose Terrace, Shandon, trying to reclaim their street from Rat Runners.
Council could do something to alleviate the pressure during Harrison Road closure, but will they?

This somewhat ironic pedestrianization of Princes Street is somewhat glorious.
Shows you how good it could be with that much more space.

A bunch of weeds or a "wild flower meadow"?
I certainly don't see any flowers.
We're supposed to have a pavement parking ban in Scotland. @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social contractors will not enter private land to place a ticket on a vehicle. What's the point? Why do CEC give planning for this? @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @thecockburn.bsky.social @tollcross-cc-edin.bsky.social
Why do Edinburgh Council staff allow contractors to obstruct pavements all over Edinburgh? These signs are for council works at Viewforth. ROADs team no longer fit for purpose. @thecockburn.bsky.social @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social @kayleighoneill.bsky.social
If only there was an organisation in Edinburgh that could do something about pavement parking. This pavement in bruntsfield has recently been repaired - due to damage caused by vehicles parking in it. Road is 4 lanes if tarmac wide here
I see a steel frame with concrete slab floors and staircases, poured concrete foundations and stacks of hydrocarbon foam insulation panels and can't help but wonder by what mechanism this becomes "net zero" (beyond the noted rain garden and bicycle parking).
Looks like the Dalry side streets project could be going ahead in September?!
Unsure of the scope and detail but currently looks like just the Caledonian Road/Place streets etc.
I wonder if this has potentially been descoped 🤔🤨

Both issues were raised to the council in February 2025. Sadly no action appears to have been taken.
