MATHS TEST:

It takes two men two days to dig a hole 3m wide, 3m long and 2m deep;
and it takes one man one day to replace a paving slab 1m long and 2m wide...

How long will it take Edinburgh Council to remove a white line on the pavement on Leith Walk?

I'd long wondered if Clarence was an acronym (because Strathclyde had a wee dog called RALF - Road & Light Faults). I thought it might be 'Central and Lothian something'; it was Customer Lighting And Roads ENquiry CEntre.

Imagine if traffic lights for vehicles were designed like this? You can't actually see if the lights are green until you're right in front of them. Presumably pedestrian crossing designed by and for DRIVERS convenience. @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @thecockburn.bsky.social

Signs saying Harrison Road closed taking up majority of pavement width on Slateford Road. This is very close to a bus stop on a fast main road.

CEC - hang your head in shame. Your project - can't blame others

Constantly get cars cutting onto the wrong side of the road divider to get to the rat run quicker from Ashley Terrace also, which has made for some 'fun' near-misses.

Residents of Primrose Terrace, Shandon, trying to reclaim their street from Rat Runners.

Council could do something to alleviate the pressure during Harrison Road closure, but will they?

This somewhat ironic pedestrianization of Princes Street is somewhat glorious.

Shows you how good it could be with that much more space.

Article intro from Local Transport Today...

β€˜Oxfordshire’s electorate has endorsed our approach to transport – we will not let them down’
In the local elections on 1 May Oxfordshire County Council went from No Overall Control to Liberal Democrat control. Andrew Gant was re-elected in his ward, and is carrying on in his role of Cabinet Member for Transport Management. In an exclusive piece for LTT, he considers the challenges now facing his administration as it plans to introduce traffic filters, expand the Zero Emission Zone; and introduce a Workplace Parking Levy.

In an exclusive piece for LTT, he considers the challenges now facing his administration as it plans to introduce traffic filters, expand the Zero Emission Zone; and introduce a Workplace Parking Levy.

There are a range of policies, all interlinked and overlapping, and all dedicated to the key objectives identified in our Local Transport and Connectivity Plan: safer, cleaner streets, better public transport, and more choice for the travelling public. All of this comes down to one quite simple fact: there is too much traffic on our roads. There is no solution which does not involve facing up to that and being prepared to do something about it.

Central to our policies to tackle congestion are what we have come to call the three Core Schemes: the six traffic filters; the expanded Zero Emission Zone; and the Workplace Parking Levy. Many other policies and schemes sit alongside these, including our roll-out of 20mph speed limits, the Vision Zero programme, School Streets and much else.

We're supposed to have a pavement parking ban in Scotland. @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social contractors will not enter private land to place a ticket on a vehicle. What's the point? Why do CEC give planning for this? @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @thecockburn.bsky.social @tollcross-cc-edin.bsky.social

If only there was an organisation in Edinburgh that could do something about pavement parking. This pavement in bruntsfield has recently been repaired - due to damage caused by vehicles parking in it. Road is 4 lanes if tarmac wide here

I see a steel frame with concrete slab floors and staircases, poured concrete foundations and stacks of hydrocarbon foam insulation panels and can't help but wonder by what mechanism this becomes "net zero" (beyond the noted rain garden and bicycle parking).

Looks like the Dalry side streets project could be going ahead in September?!

Unsure of the scope and detail but currently looks like just the Caledonian Road/Place streets etc.

I wonder if this has potentially been descoped πŸ€”πŸ€¨

Both issues were raised to the council in February 2025. Sadly no action appears to have been taken.

You can report overgrown hedges and trees via the Edinburgh council website. It is homeowners responsibility to ensure hedges are trimmed back to the property boundary.

If no action from owners, council can arrange contractors at homeowners expense.

The paperwork shows the building currently owned by a student letting company. Assuming Council don't intend to buy the building, is plan to change use and then pay owner to make use of the accommodation. I have a sneaky theory that this pivot is part of the industry masterplan for the PBSA racket

Very disappointing that Edinburgh Councillors today approved a capital programme which really doesn’t give priority to walking - pedestrian crossings, wider pavements, road safety, etc.😞
Rather, various walking elements are relegated to a β€œrolling programme”…

There are lots of modal filters in Edinburgh. Why is the council so determined to remove the 3 in the Braid Estate (highlighted yellow) at a cost of cΒ£400k so that around 4,000 more drivers can speed through our residential streets?

Can @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social explain why the council has failed to take any action on this? This is a busy pavement. Pavement works were mostly complete 8 months ago but builders allowed to use it as storage. ROADS team no longer fit for 21st century @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social

Great to see the whole site being watered this morning. I was reassured in conversation with the contractor that the vast majority of the trees are doing well.

I have been advised that the whole site will be watered tomorrow.

Thanks to Gorgie Collective for raising this and to Friends of Dalry Cemetery moving so swiftly to water the trees.

We are so lucky to have these groups in Gorgie-Dalry - the trees would've been left to die without their input.

Fountainbridge by election on 26 June.

By my calculation that's the first day of the Edinburgh Schools holiday?

I also wonder why the signs are up next to Polwarth mini-roundabout, which is in Morningside Ward?

When I was a councillor and fielding queries on LTNs, I highlighted places like this at Craiglockhart Road North and in Hutchison & Chesser, which have been there for decades, and asked if people wanted them removed. Not surprisingly no one did. Change is hard but quickly welcomed once done.
