To end on a positive note: I'm absolutely sure a lot of kids will also miss out on a load of bad stuff, that is a given.

A lot of kids will also learn what a VPN is and how to use one, and that will also make their lives better in the future.

Not to be too gloomy, I'm sure there will be workarounds. Kids are usually more clever than legislators, and I'm sure there are loads of parents who also think this is a terrible idea, and will lovingly help their children get past these blocks so kids can keep enjoying that part of their lives.

I am genuinely interested in seeing what happens, and who knows, maybe it will be a net positive (whatever that would mean in this case).

Nevertheless, it's a tragedy for a lot of the kids influenced by this. Eggs and omelettes and so on.

There is this whole idea of getting kids back to "real life", with seemingly zero understanding that Twitch, Reddit, Instagram etc communities are very much a part of their real life, just as reading this message is a part of your real life and writing it is part of mine.

While many people apparently fail to consider social media beyond online predators, toxicity, and dark design, the legislation also means absolutely trampling many kids' social networks.

Hobby communities? Fan communities? Peer support groups? Sorry, not until you're 16.
