Episode 34 of Kīlauea’s summit eruption featured twin lava fountains, one soaring 1300 ft, the other 330 ft, and the highest eruptive rate yet: 500 m³/sec. With 9 million m³ of lava in just 6 hours, it was twice as fast and half as long as previous episodes.

Episode 32 ended when the south and middle vents quit erupting at 8:01 p.m. HST on September 2. The eruption produced about 12.5 million cubic yards of lava, enough to fill a hole the size of a football field one mile deep!
