These results can help guide grey seal management and also clarify taxonomic relationships. Notably, we found the NW Atlantic to be more differentiated from the NE Atlantic and Baltic Sea, than the latter two are to each other, despite the NW Atlantic and NE Atlantic being considered one subspecies.

We showed marked differentiation between the NW Atlantic, NE Atlantic and Baltic Sea grey seals. These results also showed subpopulations within the NE Atlantic, including Froan and Kola, and Iceland standing out as differentiated.

โผ๏ธ Dear MARMAM community,
We, at the DEI Committee of the Society for Marine Mammalogy, are beginning the process of establishing an Indigenous Representation Subcommittee, the idea of which came out of an ad hoc meeting held at the SMM conference in Boorloo (Perth) in the Whajuk region of WA (1/n)
