Another casualty as another car hits another bus stop. Almost as if the real safety issue at bus stops isn’t the schemes to make them accessible for school kids to pass on bikes.

We have over 2,000 cyclists a day passing the Omni Centre bus stops - if they were as dangerous as some suggest then the paper would be full of stories of people getting badly injured. The same for Leith Walk - a significant *reduction* in pedestrian casualties now the trams and cycle lanes are in.

Final stats for the Omni Centre cycle lane in 2025: a slight 1% increase on 2024 with 580,000 journeys; a new record set of 2,265 cyclists on Friday, 7th November.

The significant increase in numbers in prior years came after the development of cycling infrastructure on Leith Walk.

This one was so long it went into the rim and nearly bounced me off the bike.

Replacing a wheel was not something I had planned for 2026...

🚧 Powderhall / St Mark’s Path – Update
Good news: the path will reopen from Fri 19 Dec to Sun 4 Jan while construction pauses, giving everyone on Quiet Route 20 a safer, more direct link over the festive period.
Council still reviewing options for a better route during future closures.

More Voi bikes available as scheme expands south and west The Voi bike hire scheme is to expand south to King's Buildings and west to Roseburn from Wednesday. In the next fortnight there will be more bikes placed at designated parking in the city taking the number of electric bikes available to 480. The company says it has another 120 available but will monitor demand for now. If residents know of a suitable parking space then they are invited to get in touch with the company.

More cycle hangars are currently being installed now on Halmyre Street, Thorntree Street, Pilrig Street, Springfield, & East Claremont Street.

I can only speculate that the rollout of Voi e-bikes has significantly boosted cycling in Edinburgh this autumn, bucking the seasonal trend.

Does anyone know if there needs to be some sort of risk assessment on this? Sending thousands of cyclists around Crewe Toll, and with only two days notice, is absolutely insane.

Edinburgh Council once again demonstrating what they really think about walking, cycling, running in this city.

This is the equivalent to closing the bypass for two months and directing drivers over the top of the Pentlands.

Well done to Edinburgh Police for calling what these things are - motorcycles.

I hope the rider recovers from his injuries soon.

I raised this at Transport Committee today. Officers are checking with colleagues in signals and will report back. They did agree that 10 min wait "seems excessive" 🙄

Not sure if it’s officially officially open yet as the entrance on Dock Street still has fencing - but the Leith Connections section along Sandport has had all barriers removed and is a JOY to ride!

I can't imagine how frustrating this stuff is if you're blind, disabled, got kids and so on. 10 minutes! And to think pedestrians are top of the hierarchy. Empty rhetoric.

Good effort - I'm going to pop up there tomorrow to do some proper timings on Picardy Place.

What's a bit sad is my life has measurably improved because I no longer have to deal with the frustration of Leith Walk. I actively avoid it via Easter Road.

It's nice for a wee shopping trip (walking) at the weekend but otherwise...

They've resolved the motor vehicle issue by making pedestrians take 30 mins to get through the endless series of junctions and crossings. Success, I guess.
