Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

I had someone arguing w/me this morning that pirating books helps libraries, despite my explaining exactly your post says. Eventually I remembered that I don't argue with people on the internet anymore and just blocked them, but I'm still mad that they read my explanation and called it "silly." 🙄🤬

Librarians don't just like it, they need it. If people pirate instead of requesting books from the library and checking them out, that reduces library activity which results in decreased budgets and closures. Suggesting that piracy *helps* libraries is silly.

No, it does not. Libraries that aren't USED get their budgets cut. Librarians *want* you to request books and then check them out. That's how they continue to prove to the budgetmakers that libraries are needed. Pirating kills libraries too.

I also finished Micaiah Johnson's The Space Between Worlds this week, an extraordinary piece of imagination and character building and revenge. Immediately gripping, constantly surprising, with a deep thread of faith in humanity/community running beneath everything. Just realized there's a sequel. 😍
