Come on Starmer. What have you got to lose?
www.thenewworld.co.uk/matt-withers...
The Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood sure has put on a show…
But how much is really serious & how much is just a theatre of cruelty?
Here’s the TRUTH about this week’s asylum changes
youtu.be/w6Nr4ccjMlM?...
Shabana Mahmood says Labour values & 1951 that refugee convention is protection should be temporary
The practice of refugee protection in each of last 7 and a half decades has been that some have gone back & many have become British
Here are their stories
www.britishfuture.org/70-years-of-...
Labour values meant:
* accommodation would be conditional
* refugees would only be able to stay for 30 months before facing being sent back
* failed asylum seekers, incl. children, would be forcibly deported if they didn't accept payment to leave
What values?

But thank you EU.

Who the hell is this guy? And what does he want as a return on his £millions invested in Reform? Because it sure as shit isn’t a fairer, more progressive, equal and prosperous UK with good public services and well-regulated consumer protections.

1. Thread 🧵
Freedom of Movement wasn’t just a policy.
It was a simple freedom: the ability to say yes.
• Yes to a job.
• Yes to love.
• Yes to a new life in another country.
When that freedom disappeared, something subtle but important changed.
I think @zoejardiniere.bsky.social was spot on when she suggested more than a passing similarity with Miss Trunchbull!

So deluded she believes her policies are "in step with the British people", they represent "Labour values" & are not "extreme".

The best way to get closer to the Single Market is to JOIN IT!
Better still, just #RejoinEU
This is one of the reasons 40% of British people who could vote do not vote. Not voting is often called “apathy.” When I have talked to non-voters they are NOT apathetic. They are pissed off!

If you didn't see it in writing, you wouldn't believe it.
Religious extremists of all varieties have a lot to answer for. Surely most non-extremist Christians would be horrified by this.
Spain, France, Belgium already.
Time the rest of the EU stood up to be counted.
All for one etc.
🇪🇺 “The truth is that the public have just sort of shrugged their shoulders and said, well, yeah, get on with it,” Emily Thornberry MP said.
👏 Thornberry is right. The public are hugely supportive of the government negotiating closer ties with the EU.
Farage only likes poll results when they work in his favour.
Funny that.
Some hardline Brexiteers have rubbished the document as a “betrayal”.Let’s be clear: these slurs do not spring from any concern for Gibraltar’s wellbeing or aspirations. Rather, they are an attempt to use Gibraltar as a pawn in a domestic UK debate.

It won't matter how much Starmer redeems himself if the appalling actions/policies of the Home Office are not reigned in, & fast.

Young adults face unemployment, low wages, debt.
Govt can help, adopt Scottish policies
No university tuition fees.
No prescription charges (also in Wales)
Free bus travel for the under-22s, many on low minimum wage.
Treating young adults in England as second class is a political choice.
Does anyone remember that during the Brexit campaign, one of Nigel Farage’s arguments for leaving the European Union was to allow the UK to adopt a fairer immigration system for Commonwealth citizens?
Now he’s saying they shouldn’t be allowed to vote proving yet again the sort of country he wants.
WHAT?????
