Can plastic-eating funghi help clean up nappy waste? Cost and convenience have made disposable nappies dominant - can start-ups compete?

Omg I’m a seer. Someone get me a long white dress and a temple.

"We've tried being nice."

When? When exactly did that happen? Because I remember back to Margaret Thatcher, and the Tories have not been nice to anyone except the very rich in all that time.

AI toys for young children need tighter rules, researchers warn In first study of its kind, Cambridge researchers found AI toys could misread some children's emotions.

Oh my god people are giving small children AI toys and expecting them to learn communication from them??? THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT HUMANS SHOULD BE DOING THIS IS NOT AI'S JOB WHAT THE HELL www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The parents in the study were interested in the toy's potential to teach language and communication skills.

However, their children frequently struggled to converse with it. Gabbo didn't hear their interruptions, talked over them, could not differentiate between child and adult voices and responded awkwardly to declarations of affection.

When one five-year-old said, "I love you," to the toy, it replied: "As a friendly reminder, please ensure interactions adhere to the guidelines provided. Let me know how you would like to proceed."

This is so tragic it's actually incredibly funny

No dev or artist gets a chance to be seen or show what they have been working on without others sharing posts. It makes a difference and can lead to them finding work, selling prints and getting wish listed for games and it’s not much but it’s better then doing nothing and dose support them.

Screenshot of a Tweet by @TheChiefNerd inclusing an interview with Sam Altman.

The text in the Tweet says:
SAM ALTMAN: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever.

It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

The fallout of the government's terror campaign against the people of MN continues.

Give if you can, that would be awesome.

1. Promote artists a gen. younger than you. Share your platform. RT them, mention them in interviews. (This means being aware of what younger artists are doing!)

2. Hire them if you can. Pin ups, commissions, variants, fill-ins, assists, anything. A small gig can be what helps them make rent.

there's a really good article from Mohammed El-Kurd about the overpolicing of Palestinian speech and i feel like you see its inverse every time someone goes "sure someone JUST tried to murder jewish pre-schoolers but what's MOST important rn is that we quibble over what qualifies as antisemitism"

Illustrated magazine cover for Adventitious: Issue Two featuring a skeletal horse head adorned with ornate golden tack and marigold flowers. Colorful flowing ribbons and floral patterns swirl around the horse against a warm golden background, creating a vibrant, folkloric Day-of-the-Dead–inspired design. The title Adventitious appears in bright green at the top with a small astronaut icon.

Issue 2 cover reveal!

This gorgeous art is "Caballo" by @mxmorgan.com. I instantly fell in love with it, and stars aligned for it to set the tone of the issue.

Issue 2 (and the stories this horse is guarding) land April 1.

Here's the picture worth a thousand exclamation points:

I’m at an art gallery show featuring college student artist/scientist teams creating new works about climate hope and I just saw an exhibit on decomposition of fallen trees as a fertile home for other organisms that says “There Is No Death In This Ancient Forest” and it hit so hard I had to sit down

As yet another UBI trial rolls past showing that it works really well, it's hard not to conclude that the main reason nobody adopts it is because bad employers don't want to give up their leverage over the desperate and poor to work in shit conditions for pittance.

This bothers me.

Not that this guy lost--his claims were spurious.

But lawsuits like these, that _are_ spurious, make the real ones--like the classic McDonald's hot coffee case--look spurious too.

Early promotional Star Trek The Next Generation logo, which saw very limited use at the end of 1986 and early 1987, from what I can tell.

Warping onto your screens this fall, starring a bald captain, an annoying teenager on the bridge and a KLINGON security officer! Sounds terrible…

Don’t say “oh they can’t get to them”. Don’t say “my cat never bothers flowers.”

Cats who survive have multi day stays at the emergency vet, and it’s expensive. There’s no promise they can save your cat. Again- MASSIVE FATAL CAT TOXIN.

Dozens of flower pots containing lilies

As we roll into Valentine’s Day, and with Easter looming- it’s time for my annual PSA- these kill cats. Period, full stop. Lily pollen is insanely toxic and will destroy their kidneys in 18 hours. If you have cats- THROW LILIES AWAY. 1/
