24.01.2026 15:58 β π 3893 π 1091 π¬ 22 π 27I'm sending this out to the few folks I know who might support the present administration. I've done my best to be politically tolerant all my life and respect folks I disagree with. The last few weeks in the Twin Cities have shaken that tolerance to its core. All of the conservative folks I respected growing up have long abandoned the Republican party, but there are still folks I care about who have found ways to justify remaining. Usually they shrug and say something like, "We don't like him much either," and then do nothing to stop the rise of this horrible new regime. I don't care about excuses any more. This is the world you all made. I don't know how you might have been hoodwinked into your present beliefs, but you need to know they are deeply wrong and folks are getting killed because of it. The Twin Cities are an incredible place. I've lived all over this country, and I think this little corner of the Midwest represents the best of us. Within a week of moving here I knew the names of everyone on my street. Folks brought us food and helped watch our kids as we unpacked. We bonded over digging out each other's cars in the winter and comparing north shore hikes and camping grounds in the summer. If I hadn't lived here, I wouldn't have imagined a place like this could exist.
Over the past month, we have been ravaged by state-sponsored terrorists. They are kidnapping folks. It's not uncommon to find an empty car, blinkers on, in the middle of the road, as if the driver had been whisked away in the Rapture. Families are being broken up, folks with ample legal protections are being locked up for days without access to their lawyers or their families. This isn't an internet rumor. It's happening outside my window and it's every bit as horrible as a page from the Diary of Anne Frank. But Minnesotans are a stalwart bunch. We've got a neighborhood patrol to protect school children from government agents. Cati has been helping coordinate groceries for folks who are afraid to leave their home. The little dish by our door where we put our keys now has a stock of whistles that we bring with us so that we can alert folks to government agents. And it's working. ICE is less effective, and more and more people and businesses are being tied into one of the most remarkable and organic grassroots efforts ever seen. All of that was on display yesterday when I went downtown with perhaps 40 or 50 thousand people to protest. The -40 degree wind chill didn't stop us.
And yet, today they killed another person. In broad daylight. The video is horrible and looks like something that we'd associate with the reign of Tito or Kristallnacht. They are trying so hard to break this beautiful place. They won't do it, but the longer they try the more people are going to die senselessly. None of this would be possible without the folks who enabled this, one way or another. That's you and that's on you. This isn't an invitation to a dialogue. I'm done talking. This is a demand for accountability. Turn off your TVs and your podcasts and step out of your echo chambers. A terrible moment has arrived in America, and you carried it here on your backs.
A letter from Saint Paul to those last few friends and family who have somehow become indifferent to ongoing campaign of terror in the Twin Cities:

Have you read the Green Bone saga by Fonda Lee? I am almost finished with the 1st book and would recommend it.
