🎉🎉I’m overjoyed to share that we officially won the appeal in my free speech lawsuit against my alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison!!! “We find unconstitutional the University’s off-topic rule as applied to Krasno because it is not viewpoint neutral, but instead discriminates against Krasno’s anti-animal testing and pro-animal rights viewpoint... We therefore conclude that the University’s off-topic comment restriction, as currently written and enforced against Krasno, is unreasonable under the First Amendment.” This marks two legal victories—one against UW–Madison and one against the National Institutes of Health—for silencing those who dare to question the ethics of animal research. But two lawsuits won aren’t all that arose from me finding the courage to share my experience as a former animal lab worker and become an advocate for justice in science. I’ve received so many messages from others who’ve worked in labs—people who saw their own pain reflected in my stories. That solidarity gave rise to Justify, a first-of-its-kind organization where current and former lab workers can process their experiences, find healing, and become advocates for science without human or animal suffering. The takeaway? Your story matters—and it may be exactly what someone else needs to hear to feel seen and to believe change is possible. I also want to thank my friend, Christopher Berry @chrandberry, for bringing my case against UW, which led to the case against the NIH, to fruition, as well as the rest of @animallegaldefensefund who has represented me through it all.
